Development Bank of Southern Africa Reviews

Life at DBSA

A typical work day is a very relaxed one at DBSA. The environment is an open one without too many formalities. My relationship with co-workers is good as we travel around in our area and when get back , there is an excitement of sharing experiences and challenges. Fridays become the best day to go to work . We order out or go out to eat together as a team. I am a matured one and in most cases a peace maker when that is needed. What I haven't learnt at DBSA is an experience with brand communication as the DBSA marketing is more based on relationship marketing. The culture of the bank is what I enjoy most and the developmental activists part of being a DBSA employee. Brand marketing. The bank is not that marketing oriented and there is much that can be done in that space but no much opportunities are opened there.

Pros: great learning environment
Cons: One can easily get stuck in complacency

Good exposure to the development financing environment

Working for my current employer involves engaging with stakeholders and clients within the public and private sector in order to find effective and efficient models for the delivery of social and economic infrastructure. It also requires engagement with other divisions within the company to ensure that we provide a total package of solutions to client including infrastructure planning, financing, delivery and maintenance. Since I joined the company, I've learnt a lot about development financing solutions both within the country and at the level of the continent. The most challenging part of the job is the need to strike a balance between the priorities of various clients an stakeholders.

Pros: Fulfilment from being part of initiatives that contribute to socio-economic development especially in the least disadvantaged regions of the country
Cons: The demand for the company's support and services always outstrips the available resources, meaning resources are often overstretched

Excellent

Dear sir/Madam, Kindly receive my application for position of Accounts Payable Administrator. I would like to make application available. Personally, I have great respect admiration and its vision. I am employed at the Development bank of southern Africa (DBSA) where I have some exposure to accounting environment through projects that are administered by DBSA in South Africa and other countries. Projects relating to infrastructure at municipalities. I have a number of skills that I believe will be best suited for this role. These include administrative skills such as managing budget allocations, making sure payments are done on time by tracking all invoices due. My skills also go beyond general administrative duties. I also possess executive and strategic skills. This includes high level interactions with all the departments and agencies, which I encountered daily in the DBSA environment. I am confident that such skills will contribute to my competence

Pros: yes
Cons: yes

Limited growth

Good organisation but highly hiarchical and at times can be more politically driven than business driven. It can also be career limiting if you are an expressive person

Pros: Decent bonus
Cons: Conservative approach

Always being at the forfront of new technologies

We a small team consisting of 5 administrators. We have a professional relationship and we learn from one another. This also pushes one to be at your best. What i have learned is team work. What I enjoy mostly is the ability to try and test new technologies and the full support from management. The most challenging aspect of my job is ensuring a 98% uptime. We have a Wintel environment that consist of 188 servers and a storage platform. This also means that security of our environment is sure at all time.

Pros: Working with professions and have the support of managemnet for introducing new technologies
Cons: Not being promoted as our Operating model does not make room fo this.

Excellent learning curve i get the full exposure related to my qualification or career

Most importantly, I enjoy my daily work (Meetings engage with different stakeholders within the bank) So far, I enjoyed the people I work with, they are fun and friendly and I actually look forward to going to work every morning. Since being in the workplace, I have learnt the following skills. 1. Dealing with conflict - this will be a great contribution and value to organisation by bringing peace and control tension between IT and users. 2. Negotiation skills – this will be of value when trying to negotiate and bring common goal to achieve between IT and business users. 3. Problem solving – like decision-making, brainstorming can help you discover a problem’s root cause and define potential solutions. 4. Active listening – listening is a skill, therefore this will be a bonus to business to have a person who listen attentively during requirements elicitation/gathering, provide quality spec and client service.

Pros: none
Cons: none

Excellence working and grooming company

The company i am currently working for is the best company ever , the relationship among the employees are priceless, i was very shocked how nice they are, i have to deal with different stakeholders and managing time because i am involved in many projects with all needs my attention . I enjoy the fact that they are willing to teach me , things i am not familiar with , few weeks ago we were busy with training on Aris 10.0 . The most challenging aspect is when i organise a meeting maybe to confirm the requirements and my stakeholders don't come or respond to my emails.

Pros: i get to be exposed in most of different things across the Bank
Cons: N/A

Good working environment - flexible and encourages work life balance

A company that has the potential to be greater than it is currently. Great environment for ambitious professionals who want to challenge the status quo and catapult the company to greater heights. As a development bank, the slow economic growth rate can hamper business opportunities. This can also lead to apathy due to a low-pressured environment.

Pros: Great work/life balance
Cons: Low pressured environment in some divisions that should ordinarily be high-pressured.

Excellent learning curve, and opportunities.

Here at DBSA i was given a chance to be part of the Learning and Development Department, I was doing the recording of training and coaching invoices, then sending them to the Human Capital Administrators to process. I was involved in the procurement of finding new service providers, placing their requirements into a pack and I was given an opportunity to do some trainings that will develop my days working at DBSA.

Pros: Great opportunity to take my experience further
Cons: Can't get assistance quickly
