Customer service is my passion

My husband and I manage and own the takeaway canteen at Imperial Toyota in Kempton Park. We have 2 staff reporting to us. A typical work day will include greeting customers and colleagues and providing excellent customer service to our potential customers. My 27 years working in the corporate world has taught me patience, resilience, empathy, leadership, administrative, customer service and quality assurance skills. I enjoy face to face interaction with clients. The most challenging experience I have had working in the food industry was when my delivery staff was absent and I had to arrange with my chef to prepare food and to deliver food items in and around this area. My customers were inconvenienced because of their food orders taking longer than usual. It was a great achievement for me when the same customer that was inconvenienced the previous day will still order food from us. Customer service with a friendly smile is what sells.

Working on fast paced environment

A typical work day consists of reviewing documents, liasing with regional staff and managers. Accuracy while overseeing correct input of regional accounting entries, analyse system balances. Great team player, ability to work on my own completing work tasks and meeting reporting deadlines. Efficient, eye for detail, thorough and accountable.

Excellent growth opportunities

Pathcare is a 24hr Medical company and our clients is patients who are, may and can be sick. So needless to say how accuracy and speed and working under pressure well was of utmost importance and I can assure you I excelled in all fields and more. My main job description was logging and capturing of all patient documents with the accurate tests and clinical data and doctors mnemonics etc that comes in from all pathcare depots and urgent stat labs and hospitals. Whilst capturing all this critical data ACCURATELY in fast-pased, high-pressure enviroment I also had to attent to the swithboard. That includes awnsering of all 4 lines of just my office and resolving queries etc. Speaking to doctors and lab technicians and assistants on a daily basis. I also had to assist my teamleaders and H.O.D with the training and assisting with the junior clerks. So I do believe I am a strong leader.

Design & Handmade Wedding & Party Stationery

A typical working day is long hours. Sometimes from 6am until 6pm or until 10pm. I do design and handmade designs which takes a lot of time and hand work. I employ 1 employee part-time, to help me with bulk orders and packaging. Having my own business is very hard work. It has taught me a great deal about book-keeping and finances. Also to schedule my work at such a pace to get through it all. It has taught me patience, not every client is easy, it has taught me a lot about design, and a lot more computer skills than I previously had. It has taught me stress management, and better communication. I love what I do, all things design and paper is my passion. I love to experience new techniques or to challenge myself.

Pros: Great experience opportunity, as I am teaching myself things that I have not had the opportunity to learn before.
Cons: Very long working hours. Salary not always stable, some good months, some not so good months

Good people skills and good knowledge in this field

Influence and leader

I do various activities since I am self-employed. There is no pressure, I work at my own pace and time as long as I get the job done. I have create friends that I usually brainstorm with if I am planning to work on the next business venture. I am very relaxed and flexible, dedicated and creative. I like public speaking hence I mentor young girl.

A great exposure to self-employment, responsibilities and general management.

My day starts at 06:00 and ends when the daily targets are achieved and also dependent on the weather conditions. I like to count my daily achievements. My colleagues understand that there are times when we have to work overtime in order to achieve our objectives while on the other hand, weather dependant, we may do nothing. The lessons I have learnt are that Farming is hard work and totally different from being in an air-conditioned office or car, one has to love the soil, dust and unpredictable weather conditins. I always rejoice when my plans come to fruition. At our farm, I developed the watering system, rain water catchment areas, underground water storage and built up dams. The greatest challenge has always been the weather. Drought, extremely hot conditions to the detriment of plants but good for solar power, preventing access of night predators to the farm and controlling snakes have always kept me on my toes. Apart from my current job, my previous employments speak volume of me,

Examples include: I make protein bars and seed bars and supply them to juice bars and cafés. I also sell sports supplements and gym apparel.
