Trading for a living

I manage a book of exotic derivatives. I am responsible for the day-to-day running of the book as well the positioning of the assets. I have a demanding boss who gives me a lot of responsibility. My typical work day begins at 7:30am. I check my risk and PNL. We then have a morning call to discuss the markets. I do a lot of catch up work in the evening and leave around 7:30pm. I spend a lot of time implement measures to better manage and understand the risk. I support other areas of the business where they need trading input. I recently executed a major structured trade for our structuring team where I organised and managed all Front Office activity. The most complicated part of my job is balancing the risk management against my other responsibilities. I regularly interact with the Actuarial teams to understand how the book will grow and change over time. I get involved in a lot of extra-curricular activities. I'm also the business sponsor and organise of the internships.

Pros: Great Opportunity to manage such a portfolio at such a young age
Cons: Very Long Working Hours

Sharing my knowledge

I will start my day off with pulling the reports that we work off. Then I will do the selection criterias that we QA. From there I will sign in on my laptop and start to QA the reports. My target that i reach a day is about 100 - 150 members details that I QA. My relationship with my co-workers is very profesional and we get along very well. I have learnt to be more patient, have respect for all different type of cultures and how to be more profesional. I enjoy collecting all the errors that the staff make. That gives me the oppertunaty to interact with them and to give them coaching of how to improve on their errors. The most challenging aspects of my job is when the assessors dispuit their errors, this gives me the oppertunaty to share my knowledge with them and coach them where they can improve on the quality of their work.

Pros: Sharing my knowledge with my co-workers
Cons: The work can get monotonous at times
