Fresenius Medical Care Reviews

A normal day in the dialysis clinic.

I work at a dialysis clinic whereby clients comes in daily for their therapy (renal). Daily observations and assessment done before any treatment administered to check the clinical status of our client. Working relationship with colleagues is very healthy and we always assist one another for the clients benefit. We believe in administering holistic care to our clients. Health talks and awareness are given daily to our clients to improve their knowledge about their health problems. Nursing a client back to health gives me much joy and confidence to say I'm competent in what I'm doing. Workshops and in service training are always provided for staff members to be aware of new developments in terms of patient treatment and delivering quality care.

Pros: Its a learning curve and studying opportunities provided.
Cons: Very long hours.

Career and personal growth

My day to day work is to do my own administration work which is filling of the job cards, managing and ordering my own spares for repairs and maintenance. Giving support to my customers, going out to customers to do repairs and maintenance and also be on standby for after hours. I have learn to be my own manager and able to do customer care. Doing repairs and maintenance is the exciting part because it helps to be up to date with electrical and electronics technology , and also seeing the customer happy when the job is done is more exciting. I also do big projects which includes installations of water purification systems, that also exciting because working in a team and achieving a goal is more like a personal growth. Long hours is not something I prefer but if there is a job to be done I do it.

Pros: gaining more skills and knowledge
Cons: You get to work very long hours

Food exposure

We work a maximum 12 hours a day, team orientated, team work is the best with assisting each other especially with one's strengths and weaknesses. Getting along with the same patient, and them ending up feeling like a big family. Challenges includes knocking off around 10pm, but it is all worth it, because we are assisting people with day jobs as well.

Pros: Learning opportunity, and exposure
Cons: Long working hours.

To train final year students how to work in an acute and chronic unit

To work 16 hours every second day, when not on acutes for the week. Relationship with the co workers and patients are awsome. Like family to me. I have learned a lot of patients to train students and how to act accordingly and fast in an emergency situation. The most challenging aspects in this work, is that it is long working hours and do not have time for family. I enjoy it the most to work in a chronic unit.

Pros: Opportunity to grow with the company
Cons: Long hours, which I do not mind

The work review

The work review Typical work day, upon arrival I go to ICU and Wards to do rounds and talk to patients about their progress and of course look at their blood results and do assessments to see if the patient is doing well or not and then inform the Dr who will then advise accordingly. I do Dialysis on patients both ICU setting and Chronic Unit setting. Long hours on the floor and lots of pressure, with experience I've realised that I am more able to tackle challenges as they come and withstand pressure. My relationship with my colleagues is very good. They have my back. They're very supportive and they try make work as easy as possible.

Pros: Flexible in terms of off days
Cons: Long working hours
