West Rand District Municipality Reviews

Working for the current employer was an opportunity and springboard for my future career development

In my nine years of working for the west Rand District Municipality, I have learned from both successes and mistakes which have shaped me into a better person than I was when I started. Working for the municipality was an opportunity and springboard for my future career development. I believe I have done sterling work in what I do in that I do not only focus on the bigger picture, I also focus on finer details of any task I am tasked with. My relationship with colleagues (both seniors and juniors) and clients has always been cordial. Paying attention to details can be regarded as one of the strengths in any built environment project. Any fraction of mistake may lead to detrimental consequences - this one of my strength. I managed a team which deals with human settlements at the District Municipality. Beside the District municipality team, I also coordinate managers from local municipalities within the district municipality. The most challenging aspect is dealing with non performing service provider.

Pros: Paying attention to details can be regarded as one of the strengths in any built environment project or programme. Any fraction of mistake may lead to detrimental consequences
Cons: Paying attention to details can have adverse effects when it comes to work where time frame is a factor.

Office practice

I am writing this letter with regards to the programme. I saw an open call on the application on the company website. I am familiar with the application given the qualification that I have , the interest and experience in this field I believe that I can be a valuable asset to your team. In addition to handling projects that were assigned to me in my current internship at West Rand District Municipality under political office I was responsible for the following: Taking minutes; Updating my senior’s diary; Capturing; Telephone etiquette; Itinerary; Agenda; & other office work. I kindly request that you go through my resume attached with my application which lists all the information related to my work experience, duties, and education level. I look forward to hearing your decision, I would be able to grow within the company and learn as much as possible to better my experience and performance I urge to get an opportunity to work for the company as it would be great achievement.

Pros: Excellent working place
Cons: normal working hours

Great exposure the environment

A typical work day is us receiving environmental complaints from the community and us noting them and going to inspect the sites that are of concern to the community. We then draw up a report of the findings together with our findings and recommendations. We sometimes issue air emissions licences for the industries that qualify for one. I have a easy-going and open relationship with my co-workers. It is a friendly working environment. I enjoy the inspections to different sites because I know I love working in the field majority of the time as opposed to sitting in the office all day.

Pros: Great learning environment
Cons: There are days when we do nothing and just sit in the office.

Start building a career for my future.

Starting the working day together with my colleagues is something I am looking forward to everyday. It can become very busy at times and you hardly noticed how the time flies. Me and my Supervisor has a very good relationship she happen to be the H/R Manager. Me and other co- workers have a great level of communication. At reception you are basically the eyes and ears of the department and I also happen to get in contact with most of the employees, and I have to keep things professional and greet everyone and to be tactful in order to lift the standards and company profile of the organisation. The most challenging aspect I am experiencing is the filling, everything needs to be filed correctly, neatly and accurately.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion and independence
Cons: Traveling long distanced
