HIV Project
For the past 10 years, i have been working in an HIV project that was affiliating under Department Of Health in partnership with Walter Sisulu University-Health Science department in Eastern Cape, working as a Training Administrator. The period in which I've worked there has taught me more than a lot ranging from planning of the year activities, organizing seminars/ conferences etc, being involved in a budget spending,co-ordination of small projects within the HIV project, controlling of the organization resources, following up on certain matters like HR issues for workers, payments for service providers etc. I have also been exposed a lot in managing a web-project (setting up tasks, using teleconferencing & video conferencing resources), coalition of statistics for submission to the donors and other administrative duties

Experience
For past 12 years, i worked for an HIV project affiliating under DOH in EC, as a Training Administrator. This period taught me a lot ranging from planning year activities, organizing seminars/ conferences, involved in a budget controlling, dealing with employees HR issues, payments/issuing of orders/vouchers for service providers etc. Exposed in managing a web-project (setting up tasks, using teleconferencing & video conferencing resources), coalition of statistics for submission to the donors and other administrative duties. I then moved to Public Admin dept where i deal with handling of student data, arranging logistics for external short learning programmes and national diplomas offered to external organisations. Requisitioning of orders, vouchers and payments for services rendered for small projects co-ordinated by our department. Processing of claims for staff involved in outside projects. Liaison with stakeholders for funding of students projects.
Pros: I got to excel in the following- communication skills, negotiation skills, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, computer skills, project co-ordination skills
Cons: Extra working hours and travelling

Experiential training for the workplace
walter sisulu university provides a great working environment as it allows development and skill enhancing for the individuals. although it is quite challenging having to work around academics, it provides us with a great deal of professionalism and competency when performing our duties

MY REVIEW
Working at wsu is very challenging I am an energetic young woman .organisational skills. I have good communication skills and able to present ideas in a fluent confident manner. Friends and acquaintances all testify to the fact that I relate to people easily and that am able to adapt quickly to new surroundings and situation. I would like to work at Senior Management level in the Operations/Corporate Services environment.
Responsibilities: Formalize strategic & operational objectives. Identify financial & operational risks. Policy formulation & writing. Performance evaluation. Ensure cost effectiveness & efficiency. Identify business opportunities. Draft & implement financially viable & sustainable business plans. Streamline cross-functional systems & activities. Communication. Staff development & coherence. Determine standards. Ensure functionaries achieve Strat Obj. Establish data recording mechanisms. Track progress & performance. Establish forums for technology research & infrastructure development. Draft & manage budgets with financial control measures. Project Management. Contract management. Time-management, target driven ref quality & standards. Managing a large number of staff located at decentralised workstations. Natural Team player but prefers to take the lead in critical situations that demands action & positive outcome. Known as a strategist leading technologists to perform towards common organizational goals.
Pros: Working with people and infrastructure development projects is my focus and joy.
Cons: The current state of finances in the tertiary environment is a disgrace and difficult to manage in terms of service providers

Good working experience
As Administration student assistant I work mostly with Student Leadership and their sub-structures. It is very interesting working with the SRC as there is something new everyday. Being at Student Affairs has contributed a lot in my professional growth and has thought me so many skills into handling situations as they rise. My colleagues are kind, humble and dedicated into developing our students in every way. I have learnt to be independent, to think on my toes and to make decisions that may not only affect me but my students. challenging so far are the strikes but l do understand where the students come from.
Pros: There is great opportunity for growth and to study further

Skills and knowledge obtained
Good communication skill. Can work both individually and on team. Have desire to solve problems. Like to work with people.computer competent. Reliable and hardworking office assistant with hands on experience in handling diverse tasks to ensure smooth office running

Optimistic Learning experience
I've been facilitating afternoon tutorial classes from 3pm to 5pm everyweek days. Solving academic and social problems of students, capturing test marks, setting class assessments and capturing tests and exam marks of students has been few of my duties. It has been a great experience to work with Lecturers, leading a large number of university students, and knowing that l have contributed to the passing rate of students, as I have been also a student. It is always a challenge to work with people, because of different characters that I had to deal with, profesionally as young as I am. Also having to sacrifice my spare time by assisting students from other faculties, as I am known as the best achiever in the campus was one one of few challenges
