A Great Learning Curve

A Great Learning Curve With a fantastic corporate culture that tries to make the employees working conditions as pleasant as possible, Vodacom Group is a special place. With no stringent dress code, you come to the office in what you feel comfortable in which can set the tone for the rest of the day. My role includes being involved in several areas that include inventory management, IT & Billing, Supply Chain and Logistic, Warehouse Management and ERP. It has offered me fantastic exposure in the financial operations of one of the biggest telecoms company in South Africa which has offered me invaluable expertise and experience.

Pros: Great business exposure
Cons: Niche role, lack of opportunities for promotion

Not what it use to be

I left Durban 1 and a half years ago and moved to johannesburg to work , however , i took the job due to build work experience, my first year at the company was amazing, i worked as a mobile data specialist , i was then told my salary would be doubled if i move to this other department which would then mean me working as a first line engineer as well as a second line data specialist , its been 6 months and the company has been exploiting my skills and the pay hasn't changed , i am asked to train people who join the company and earn double of my salary but are less skilled, i feel as if management is threatened by my skills as they feel if an opportunity is given to me i would basically be putting their positions at risk. It is true what they say about the Corporate world , its either eat or be eaten and im my case i've been mistreated.

Pros: Nice facilities
Cons: no lunch break , no growth , no recognition

Easy to adapt in different situations

Worked as a Network Specialist in Radio Network Maintenance and Transmission departments. In Radio Network Maintenance, I have been maintaining 2G, 3G & LTE BTSs and also BSC. In Transmission, I have been doing planning, implementation and installation of tellabs 8600 smart routers and monitoring Network using CLI.

Pros: I joined Vodacom group as an intern from 2007 July to 2009 February. I also joined Vodacom group as a permanent employee from March 2009 as a Technical officer under Radio Network Maintenance. I was promoted to be a Senior Technical Officer in 2011 on the same department. I have been promoted in 2013 to work as a Network Specialist in Radio Network Maintenance. In 2014, I was promoted to work as a Specialist under Transmission department till 2017
Cons: I was working from 8:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Friday and also working standby and overtimes.
