Enabled complete academic and practical development

Working at UFS (Department of Mocrobial, Biochemical and Food Biotechnology) not only enabled the honing of my practical skills but also facilitated the conversion of my theoretical knowledge into actual experimental work. The typical work day consisted of me aiding 2nd year students with their practicals and teach them the principles of time management, the ability to think on their feet as well the ability to think under pressure. We were also required to mark their assignments and end of year practicals. The relationship I had with my co-workers was of a synergistic nature with the willingness to assist each other whenever a problem presented itself thus promoting cohesiveness in addition to personal and professional growth. I enjoyed the interaction I had with my student as it allowed me to challenge them thus by-passing the most challenging aspect of the job which was to promote the students independent thinking.

Pros: Great working environment
Cons: Short working hours

Mr Bonga Azola Mei

I study all day and since I am facing the end of my degree. I have learnt a lot about the finance and banking industry. I enjoy my modules most of all because they are very diverse and challenging and yet so interesting. I have a personal relationship with my lectures and fellow students and we work as groups most of the time.

Pros: The qualification is the goal
Cons: challenging academic content

Great environment to work with different types of people in different types of industries.

A typical work day is me coming to work, check my emails and reply to them, about 10 am I get coffee. I have a great relationship with my co workers, we are basically friends at work with ability to know our boundaries when work needs to be done. I have learnt to meet deadlines and people skills. I enjoy working, the process of it. Having to meet other peoples expectations.

Pros: Great opportunity for better jobs
Cons: Not really any

Interesting learning and communication with others

Working with students and colleagues is very good job especially when communication is strong and everyone does his/her job so as to meet our goal as it is set. I learnt to capture students details and also print out thier documents.

Pros: Very good job for data capturing though it was for a month but its quite good.
Cons: Pressure

It's challenging but worth the experience

It's great to work at the University and it teaches a lot of things about myself. A normal day is quiet but it does get busy and working with students can be quite challenging. Working as a lab assistant has taught me conflict and situation management. Patience is also a big requirement in this line of work.

Pros: Working experience
Cons: It's boring sometimes

Working as a tutor and a residence committee at the University of the Free State was a great experience as it helped me grow as an individual. The salary was quite low, there was so much work for so little pay.
