UCT Reviews

Excellent learning curve

I occupied as an intern in Cape Town at the University of Cape Town – Human genetics Division on a 12-month long internship programme by Department of Science and Technology (DST) with the National Research Foundation (NRF) in 2015. Shortly after, I enrolled with the same division as an honours student, with the pharmacogenomics group. The research project investigated genetic disposition among patients affecting warfarin response. Which has aspired me to work with pharma related issues in any research fields. This interests me because of the direct implications involved with public health. I have learnt expertise from clinical research to theory applied laboratory techniques. I am a versatile and dynamic individual who loves working in a positive environment with an interest in science related work.

Pros: Educational
Cons: Long hours spent at the lab

Good learning experience

To whom it may concern, I have graduated with a BA in Media and Communications at Uct. I am currently completing a part-time online Marketing Management PGDiploma through Getsmarter and Uct that I will be completing at the end of November 2016. I am hungry to learn and gain new experiences through the adventures offered by the Go2Africa Internship and through the professional team that I will be working with in order to get the objectives and goals of the business in place. I think that I will fit in with the Company culture because I am a person that loves adventures and new challenges. Go2Africa can offer me a space where I can be creative and innovative in developing new ideas that will benefit the company and my personal career development. It has always been my dream to travel through Africa, learn and see new places. It will be a privilege to be able to offer new adventures and experiences to other people that have similar dreams and interests.

Pros: Great
Cons: Too little cash

Learning experience

It is a very tightly knit working community. you know your classroom and you know the staff. You have to deal with day to day problems of students and mark their work and give them a grade as well and keep up with admin. Working at UCt is a good practice for an academic career.

Pros: money while studying, good pay, get to know staff so the opportunities for getting hired as permanent staff is high
Cons: not promotion opportunities, emotional work, give students bad grade feels like a you are the problem

Exhausting work

Working at GIPCA is more or less very Labour intensive for little pay. It's okay but I would like to have more a challenge and to be more renumerated for the work that I do.

Pros: Not long hours
Cons: Little pay
