My Day Job Description

A typical work day is do maintenance according to jobcards and procedures, with a good relationship with co-workers and learned a lot in regard to siemens PLC S7 and SCADA.

Pros: To be able to make/take fecision on your own.

Learnt alot within the Petroleum Industry

I work exceptionally well with everyone I am in contact with from the tea lady to the CEO and Managers. My responsibility amongst others also includes:- - Training - Research and Development - Optimization - Governance - Audits - Best Practices My skill set includes audit and controls, standard and procedure writing, ICT Landscape Design, System Configuration (sizing, design and implement), hardware platforms, Operating Systems, Databases and Backup Utilities and System Integration.

Pros: Learnt alot over the years
Cons: Long work hours, Too much travel, away from family

Growth within Mechanical engineering and project management environment

I started working in Sasol synfuels in Secunda as mechanical fitter artisan, then I worked as a technician and I became a project engineer with Sasol oil and I moved to totalSA as Project Engineer and I'm currently a Depot Manager at Transnet pipeline.

Pros: Growth within the industry
Cons: Always willing to go for an extra mile

Personal Attribute

I have acquired variety of skill such as, plant maintenance. Working on confine spaces, valve repairs and fabrication. I work on SAP system on daily basis. I work well with my colleagues and understand unfavorable working conditions at times. I enjoy working on challenging tasks.

Gaining experience on new machinery.

I enjoy working at this company because i have my own workshop and i get to travel across the country and service all the other branches within South Africa. I get to travel all the time witch i enjoy. Get to learn whole new range of new machinery i havent worked on before.

Pros: Oppurtunity to become workshop manager.
Cons: Always on standby.

Im self motiveted im interested to work

Im doing level 3 Office administation, im have that qualifications: level 2 office administation certificate. Computer certificate, code 3 learners.

Pros: i take this job because i like to halp people and to increase a degnity of company
Cons: i choose 8 hours because i dont like to work over that

Working at transnet

I would say as an instrument person the day to day work doesn't differ much to other sectors because our responsibilities is the same, to make sure that the process run perfectly without time delays. since joining the company I was expose to upgrading of depots delivery and pump station whereby total revamp of field instrument and Scada and PLC where to be commission from the scratch.

Pros: Exposure and training is the best
Cons: Since its a small company promotion is not effective

Perfect building block for career oriented individuals.

Transnet Pipelines has taught me three things. 1. Integrity: To be what I want people to see me as and do what I say must be done first. 2. Honesty: I learned that people learn honesty when they see it happen from top down. 3. Team importance: My Team is our responsibility with me in-charge as the captain I ensure that I look for weakest links and strengthen them while maintaining the strongest links.

Pros: Good place for young inexperienced professionals
Cons: Limited structural growth as it is a small OD
