The Salvation Army Reviews

Routine work with no room for growth

Balance Inter-Company accounts, check the IS to see if the budget and actuals balance, journal entries, process grv's. We have about 6 funds and I manage two of those and daily we have to check with our colleagues if there are any flow of funds between our funds and balance them. I have a pleasurable relationship with all my colleagues and superiors and I enjoy mostly working under minimal supervision. Trade Fund has many people working on it eg, Trade Manager who runs the whole operation and responsible for buying stock, we have shop assistant who doubles as a supervisor and the other junior staff who are responsible for selling. I act as a Bookkeeper/accountant. So the challenges arise where and when wrong entries take place and nobody wants to own up to it.

Pros: Ability to think out of the box and solve problems.
Cons: Little to no room for growth, development and promotions.

I have run the race

I have been here for 15 years now. It's been a roller coaster ride and I believe I have given it my all. I have learnt and implemented and I have contributed and grown. I ran my race here and gave all I had learned all I should.

Pros: Great team to work with
Cons: Little to no chance of career progression.

Learning phase or curve

It is a good working place but it doesn't have any benefits or promotion opportunities. The monies paid is below expectations and doesn't reflect the work put in.

It an opportunity to learn and meet with diverse people

This is a great place to work as you meet and work with a diverse number of people. There is need to be patient and accommodating as these people have different capacities and capabilities.I have learnt so much in terms of community engagement and also management of community centers. As l am the main person who does the reporting to the Head Office l have learnt great time management skills and importance of meeting deadlines.

Pros: Great diversity
Cons: Less growth opportunities
