Good negotiation skills

Am currently working as a sales assistant at Starke Ayres garden centre, I have been working here for 3 months now. It has been an absolute pleasure for me to learn new skills and gain exposure in the field of Agriculture. However, am looking forward into joining an organisation that is more focused in what I have studied for Crop science. Here am mostly dealing with plants/ horticulture, I would really love the opportunity to work in your team. The most challenging aspect is dealing with different people everyday with different problems that are associated with plants, it needs someone who knows their story. My colleagues are very friendly they have been supportive and willing to teach me more about plants, since I didn't really do horticulture.

Great experience

Good comany, great people to work with. Somtimes management does not want to understand that the workload is to mutch for a specific department and expects the impossible. Every individual gives their best, but sometimes jas to do so with limited information. Every day is working under pressure. Processes from one department does not flow into each other so that there is a good flow. What I enjoy the most is being out on a farm, not hearing traffic and the rest of the world. The people is friendly and one fits in easily. Something I have learned at the company is how to work with people and how not to work with people.

Good learning curve

Exposed to various factors of the agricultural industry with regards to production. Found that industry is very competitive and success is possible but hard work.

Excruciating long working hours

a typical day at Starke Ayres is exhausting. Only one tea time offered and a short 30min lunch time. My direct supervisor is great and we get along very well but our big boss is always looking for reasons to fight. We work overtime everyday and every weekend. Stock take is a week long whilst working until the morning hours. Very little sleep and very little family time.

Pros: Excellent learning curve
Cons: Long working hours
