Team worker

I am a self motivated hard worker who believe in working as a team and alone. I am a very friendly and motivating to my co-workers i am always striving and egger to learn new things and to face new challenges. In my current job what i have learned is tome management discipline and most important as an engineer is Safety "never compromise safety" those are my supervisors words first day we met.

Pros: great oppertunity to learn more about maintenance on the ship such as corrective maintenance, planned maintenance and preventative maintenance
Cons: flexible working hours and overtime when its required

Excellent learner and good team player

I joined the South African Navy and went through Military Skills Development training program for a period of two years which is the platform that introduces and instill military customs, cultures and work discipline, more over it is an introduction phase to all of the career opportunities that are presented in the organisation. I chose to pursue my career in the technical field and qualified as an artisan in an electrical and electronics field. My day to day running duties and responsibilities is to provide an efficient, cost effective, and productive Technical Environment. I work with a great team that i would refer to as a winning team that upholds high moral working values, respect one another and professional. I have learnt that i'm a hard working person who loves working with people, i work well under pressure and a good team leader.

Pros: Having being working in the Technical Field yields to great career growth and with higher level progression.
Cons: Working in a male dominated environment.

Excelent leaning curve

my typical day at work is usually sourcing for suppliers talking to them on the phone and via email. my relationship with my worker, they are very welcoming and friendly id say I made a lot of friends whom I can learn a lot from at a same time grooming me. what I learn most is how to communicate, how to handle situations for example unhappy clients or inpatient clients that we working with and for. what I enjoy most is interacting with suppliers, getting positive response from my co-workers that I am servicing. the most challenging aspects in my job is getting a request that is needed urgently and currently as an intern I do not have a land line phone I have to borrow so it some how becomes a challenge for me to deliver in time.

Pros: There no promise that we will get the prootion as they have no budget
Cons: curently i havent experienced any cons

SA Navy

A typical work day includes a standard morning meeting that reflects on operations of the past 24 hours and the next 24 hours. This is followed by a adherence to calendar activities for the day which includes replying to all communications, external stakeholder meetings / involvement, etc and adhering to short and medium cast goals and set objective for a period of 1-3 months. The co-worker relationship is based on mutual respect and following chain-of-command protocol. All interactions are based on team work and goal orientation / achievement. I have completed my tertiary Honors and Master degree through opportunities created by my employer. I enjoyed the travelling I have done with the Navy (have visited over 20 countries). The most challenging aspects of the job is to perform optimally with a very limited budget with limited human resources.

Pros: Great opportunity for further education
Cons: The unprofessional application of AA and EE policies

Great experience

The work environment is great and critical. You learn to work keeping in mind that you don't work just for salary but whatever you do other people's lives and yours depends on it as well as your response time. You can't afford to be late. If you r even one menuite late the submarine will hit the surface of the sea an the whole crew may die. So it has been a great experience you learn to trust others. Help others without hiding anything because your life and the crew's lives depends on whether you trained the person well or not and the safety of the submarine/ship depends on it. And all the procedures should be followed correctly an mistake none especially with the ammunition areas and openings. The only challenging part is that to do maintenance in other areas you have to croll because the space is very confined. We also get some time to enjoy different sports and also celebrate different cultures we have in the SANDF.

Pros: Great time and experiences
Cons: Long working hours especially if you have to work the night duty. You work normal hours then the night on the same day and normal working hours on the next day and secure at the same time as other who did not work at night.

Good company for Training and Development

I have been in the Company for long now and came to understand that it is a good company where any empoyee can learn and be developed. It mould a person to become disciplened, punctual and self respect and adherence to orders and instruction. You learn to know that a person next to you depend on you when at sea, therefore everyone is expected to perform at his /her best so that we can safely arrive back at home or next port. I enjoy being at sea and doing all the emergency and break downs drills including the team work shown by shipmates. The most challenging aspects of my job is having a break down in the middle of the sea and the whole ship's company is depending on our department to sort out the break down, after sorting the problem is it so exciting to see the excitement on the face of the ship's company

Pros: I have a great opportunity to be promoted on june after passing my Engine Room Watchkeeping Certificate
Cons: being months at sea

Great organisation, gained a lot of hands on experience. gained leadership skills

Development is a given in the organisation. Opportunities for career development are endless. However the application of transformation policies is mor focused on men, which is 0roven by the absence of females in the top structure.

Pros: Good environment to learn about different sectors within the Government organisation's, from technical to logistics right through to procurement
Cons: Females not recognized as much as men in this organisation's. The Executive structure is occupied by men.
