SI Group Reviews

Excellent learning curve. Great knowledge gained.

A typical work day at SI Group is always joyous and full of laughter. There isn't a lot for one to do at the beginning but when the rush comes, it is really great. The work environment is really something for a person to look forward to in the morning and it can be quite fast paced at times. We are like a family here and we get along very well. I have learnt a lit about customers and how to communicate with them. I enjoy doing the menial tasks that everybody else doesn't really want to do because I am detail oriented and pride myself on perfection. The most challenging part of the job is dealing with people of different backgrounds and emotional intelligence.

Pros: Great opportunity to learn various things about the transport, recruitment and manufacturing industries.
Cons: The salary isn't that great, especially for the amount of work that most people put in and the benefits are not so "awesome".

Progressive working environment

Recruitment manager with seven staff members reporting to me. Logistics / transport companies where we source, check, select and test the learning ability of the Code 14 drivers. VTS Dover testing coordinator. Huge contracts with the ERI Power stations to supply general workers. White collar division with across the board specifications. Recently took on a project to open a branch in the Southern Cape - Mossel Bay and George area. All the Marketing and selling of both the recruitment and PPE side of the business. Project to be evaluated and could be handed over to local staff. Aim to relocate back to Gauteng. Available for interviews within 24 hours and two week notice period. Available to work country wide.

Pros: Succession plan in place and staff trained and supervisory capacity at present.
Cons: Small business with limited resources.

NEW OPPORTUNITY

I got in being an assistant to my manager, I've been promoted to being a Key Accounts Executive Manager in my second month. The salary stayed the same. I don't get a bonus. The responsibilities have grown. I'm just learning as much as I can. I will get to work in the morning, and when I open my emails there's at least 10 to 20 emails that need to be read. Every day, I must open tender websites and make sure that there's no new tenders. And if there is a tender, then it is my duty to gather the needed information and ensure that the tender is submitted in time. The difficult part of the job is that I can't get the orders together myself. I have to pass down the information, and wait for the order to be ready. Sometimes, it takes longer than the given time, and (the part I hate the most), I have to tell the client that they have to wait longer for their order.

Pros: Great place to start and gain experience
Cons: No opportunity for growth.

Work / Life Balance

Get up with a song in your heart every morning, just to be confronted with clashing personalities at the office. Dealing with clients, their orders and their issues is a pleasure and satisfying even, but internal politics make it difficult. From not being confident to sell a product I don't know at all to success in cold calling and generating my own leads. Knowing a product well and being proud of the product your company manufactures, shows in your sales.

Pros: Small, flat organisational structure, decision-making is easy accesible
Cons: Family-owned

Great experience opportunity.

Great learning curve and platform for experience. Typically, the processing and punching of timesheets would constitute a basic day. Loading new employees on the payroll system, and following up on documentation required also co statutes a typical work. Relaxed environment with a family structure.

Pros: Potential is recognised and given opportunity.
Cons: Not enough remuneration for hard work that is put in.
