Department manager in the retail food chain
I have learned a lot on the business administration side and operation in terms of generating profit by managing expenses and sales. I fell in love with the operational side though initially I was more of an administration type but eventually groomed into a very good sales manager.I liked my job to an extent that I could work more hours not expecting to get paid for it but enjoying because that was for the best of my departments and business. I did not like the alarm call outs because we could go for the same zone 3 times and the only person who could approve that the zone be bypassed was the Regional manager,so if he was not available then we'd stay up for a long period which meant that the following day one could be tired, or unfit because of lack of sleep.
Pros: great recognition for hardworkers, good opportunity for promotion, good bonus for high perfomers(quarterly or annually).
Cons: Long working hours

I have enjoyed my work and learned a lot, I have improved as a person and developed as a manager.I enjoyed interacting with customers, developing and sharing my knowledge with staff and other external stakeholders such as sales Rep. I have develop intellectually and as a manager,my analytical thinking has improved and the work shop we had has really improved us. I am now confident in my abilities that I can join any management team and my ability to grasp quickly has enabled me to be the person that I am and my company benefited a lit in my skills. The only aspect if the business that I didn't enjoy was responding to alarm call outs at night our safety was not guaranteed.
Pros: great opporunity for promotion

Excellent learning curve
Good platform for hard workers, as they are rewarded with promotions. Long working hours for management, good pay and bonus when you reach your sales budget. Good employees to work around though staff members' salaries are so low, they must improve their them in order to enjoy longevity of their employees. Senior management(regional) not supportive of branch management. They are losing good managers because of their outdated management principles.
Pros: great opportunity for promotion
Cons: Long working hours and alrm call outs at night

The Group is doing fine (SHOPRITE) but senior management from Operations managers, are failing to listen to most of my points and they forget LSM differs in all areas and to succeed in Bussiness you must match LSM and excellent in service build up a family with customers.

It was an excellent learning curve for me
It's always so busy and but it's good environment to get as much info as possible. And we work so well with the co workers . And i have learnt so much from the company , made relationships with the suppliers and various stakeholders. What is love the most is to give the best customer service and making sure that a customer never leave our shop unhappy but happy that they call again, as they are the main source for our survival. The most challenging aspect of my job is working in the coldest fridges that are minus 25 degress
Pros: A learning curve
Cons: Long hours
