Challenging and thought provoking experience that has helped me to grow in the industry

This was my first job, first time in the industry and I found it a bit challenging, but with all the help I got, I broke through and overcame the challenges. From 8-5, it’s about planning and implementing your plans. It also comes with being organized, fitting in all your work and having time do do admin, knowledge update and events. One thing I’ve learned is that planning is key, planning in advance will take you far and I’ve seen results with that. I enjoy interacting with doctors and having product conversations, finding out their thoughts and where they stand. One thing I’ve found challenging is the area KZN seeing as I’m from JHB, so having to learn the routes, shortcuts, cultures and so forth. One thing I appreciate the most is my colleagues, they are always available to assist and answer any questions I may need and in that sense it’s made me comfortable enough to always offer a lending hand to them for whatever they may need. And it also makes working easier and effective.

Pros: Opportunity to grow and expand your own personal brand
Cons: A lot of admin to consider

Gained experience and knowledge

Typical medical rep job, have to see between 5 & 6 doctors per day and two pharmacies. Myself and my colleague do the same products which makes things difficult in terms of managing our territory and still being able to reach our target Call rate and not overlap. I think it would be easier to see more doctors in a day if we had different products and didn't have to worry about overlapping. Our company also changed our areas which took away a whole SRA to give to garden route reps, so even less GPs to target. My portfolio is Hypertension and Diabetes. I have learnt a lot and grown so much but feel it's time for a change and new challenges

Pros: I get to see beautiful parts of the country
Cons: Bad management
