My overall experience with my current employer

I work in an environment that promotes team work. All bench/floor team members are trained and competent in all Laboratory activities as analyst and technician. I work well with my junior technicians and do cover for them sometime in case they are on adhoc leave or short-staffed. Job rotation allows the team to be strong. We are very professional but do support each other even on personal level without overcoming boundaries. I have learnt to be a mentor and coach and have learned to work cooperatively with people from different backgrounds, with diverse religious beliefs, cultural backgrounds and ideologies. I enjoy our safety braai and competitions, which we win 90 percent of the time. The challenge with my job is that the technical aspect of it is not growing. I have been doing appreciably the same thing for the past 10 years and it gets tedious.

Cons: Poor career growth opportunities

Not for the faint hearted

Tough industry requiring a lot of endless nights and weekends to fix breakdowns. Understaffed meaning not enough resources to do what is necessary. Normal working hours spent in meetings which then require you to work late or take your work home to complete in time.

Pros: Good company benefits
Cons: Long working hours
