A day at Santam...
Santam is the leading short-term insurer in South Africa. Along with its subsidiaries, the business transacts all classes of short-term insurance. Santam is a large, diversified, and transforming company and our success is rooted in our passion for our clients. my role is basically to ensure that the organisation is adequately and optimally staffed for the purpose of retaining a competitive advantage within the industry and has the right talent for the future – I do this by providing a comprehensive and effective recruitment service to Line Managers and HR Business Partner Lead. The main learnings and exciting elements about my role are/ is the ability to attract candidates and match them to positions in the organisation in temporary or permanent positions. I do so within the ambit of a brand ambassador by ensuring a positive candidate experience throughout the entire recruitment and selection process. Challenges are when it comes to more specialized roles, lack of skills and suitable candidates.

Excellent learning curve
I handle referrals from business partners on a daily basis to approve risks that go above mandate requests, my responsibilities include screening of multi-claimants to ensure profitability with growth on new business . I have learnt the inner workings of brokerages as I deal with them on a daily basis and visit them bi-weekly. I am indeed a team player always assisting and innovating where I can to make the teams live easier. My most enjoyable part of my job is encountering different scenarios each day with the responsibility of solving these issues timeously and effectively.

IT IS NICE TO WORK FOR SANTAM BUT THE PROBLEM IS THE MONEY
MY JOB ITS NICE BECAUSE I AM GAINING EXPERIENCE EVERYDAY AND MY COR WORKERS THE ARE VERY NICE AND THEY ARE VERY HELPFUL INCLUDING MY MANAGER AND THEY ARE VERY SUPPORTIVE ALSO BUT MONEY IS THE ISSUE OTHERWISE OTHER THAN THAT I DONT HAVE A PROBLEM WERE ARE WORKING AT THE MOMENT

Exposure into strategic sourcing of category services
A very relaxed enviroment into the office, a typical day is to chase up on lapsed contracts, extensive reseach of potential suppliers or keeping up with industry trends the role is very admin oriented. The relation ship with co workers is wonderful, mutuals respect with one another. I have learnt contracting, strategic sourcing and supplier relation ship management especially through my CIPS studies which was sponsored by my organisation. I enjoy that I am working for a reputable organisation that is the current leader in the industry. the position is moderately challenging.
Pros: Approval of study for CIPS and achieving pass on all subjects within a year
Cons: 80% is filing contracts and scanning

Ability to work in a team, and to communicate
My insurance experience includes approximately 5 years of working as a Claims Clerk for AVBOB Mutual Assurance, 4 years of working at same position for Santam Insurance Company and 5 years of being employed as an Insurance Consultant/Underwriter for Santam Insurance. It is based on the above stated that my communication skills, problem solving skills and good interaction with clients has extensively developed. And wish to extend it to your institution. First of all I love insurance , I work one of the best companies within the short term industry . on a typical work day , I do various tasks assigned to me via system (inhouse) I need to ensure that I reach my target and obviously mind my quality which have a very strict criteria. I love working within a team because you get to interact with people that are different from you and learn from them as well as share your own experience and knowledge. Ive leaned to open minded and open to learning new things , related to my work and obviously keep pushing myself to keep gaining more knowledge. I enjoy the buzz , the interaction and the drive that I possess to be one of the best within my space and to become a recommended name. the challenging part of my job is to meet daily , because each policy/client is different and special caution needs to be applied on the each client

Excellent friendly colleagues
Co workers are very friendly, my immediate boss was great, I enjoyed being at work most days. A typical day is 8 am to 16:15, but some days I had to work late.

Admin managemnt
I am a people person very dedicated and perfectionist. Hard working and always willing to go an extra mile. Would like to work with such people as well. Professional environment and great company. I enjoy solving problem and being good in my job. I have learned a lot from the companies I have worked for. The short course really prepare one to face any challenges
