My Experience

I am a hardworking individual with a National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and currently studying towards a BCOM in Business Management. I have extensive finance experience, ranging from financial administration; debtors; creditors and general administration. I work well under pressure and am excellent at working with numbers and technical problem solving.

Pros: Employees treated very well, management transparent
Cons: Long hours at times

Quite a very good company to work for, and the culture is very good.

Sanlam Investments is a great company to start your career because it is a good environment for a beginner fresh out of University. We do lots of activities like team building, so by doing so we communicate and share ideas. Like last week we had strategy session where you share your thoughts of how can the company improve daily? I said people should treat each other fairly, a can do attitude helps a lot in solving a number of issues meaning believing in yourself.

Pros: Work culture is good
Cons: No space for growth

The best employer ever.

Sanlam Investments is one of the best employers I've known. They really know how to make their people feel appreciated. My seniors, co-workers were like family to me. I miss that place every single day. ALL OF THE BEST TO SANLAM INVESTMENTS' Finance Department. Wow... What a powerful group of professionals they are.

Pros: The growth is unbelievable. There's always opportunity for growth
Cons: None

Opportunity for growth

Sanlam is a very diverse organisation with many departments which can create an opportunity for growth. Diverse culture and professionalism is the other thing that interest me in the organisation. Though it is a very nice working environment, the rate offered to me is very low.

Pros: Great opportunity for growth
Cons: very low rate

A day in the life of Cindy

There is never two consecutive days that are the same, and I like it that way. I get along with people, I have a very friendly, helping personality and I am a very fast learner. When a problem arrise I stay calm and figure out a solution, there are always ways to lighten the blow and fix things. It's also always better to be organised and to pre-empt a sticky situation and be prepared for it. People contact me for issues I'm not even involved in, only because i have such a great network; I will know who the best person is to help them with their issue. Most challenging part of my day is when I am honestly unable to help and it's all out of my controll, but I roll with the punches and keep my head high, because in everything there is a lesson to be learnt.

Pros: Great internal culture
Cons: Difficult to grow from reception

Correct, process and reconcile a wide variety of accounting docs.

Employees in this job correct, process and reconcile a wide variety of accounting documents such as invoices, departmental billings, employee reimbursements, cash receipts, vendor statements, and journal vouchers; review and code financial information; prepare and process documents to disburse funds, make deposits and prepare reports; compile and review information for accuracy; and maintain records. Work is performed by applying knowledge of accounting terminology and using spreadsheets and/or automated accounting systems.

Pros: Learn as much as you can in a Finance department.
Cons: Dont process anything in finance just to get rid of the reconciling item.
