A New learning experience with much room for improvement.

I am still in the process of learning the Industry which I find very interesting. I am fortunate to have very knowledgeable and supportive colleagues. Even though most basic principles of supply chain management remain similar, there are some distinctive aspects that are unique to the industry. My current job enables me to provide guidance and direction operationally, and also to delve into the details which I prefer. I also have the opportunity to lead from a strategic perspective in both my teams consisting of Operational and Strategic Procurement. We have made significant improvements in the warehouse and Inventory management environment as well by providing clear policies and procedures for South Africa. One of the most challenging aspects is the fact that competence levels throughout the supply chain are lower than expected. I am very passionate about Supply Chain and am able to manage all aspects in an above average manner which sets me apart from others.

Pros: Nische Industry / Market --- Long Term Growth potential
Cons: Short Term pressure on the Order Intake. Huge drive on cost reductions may result in retrenchments.

Old school management with little opportunities to grow

Lack of accountability and little no repercussions for non delivery. No reward for hard work and extra effort. When seen as good at a task there is no exposure to new opportunities

Cons: No opportunity for growth
