My main function is the completion of preliminary and detailed design phases according to client expectations while minimizing project cost and adhering to all regulatory and legislative requirements. I have excellent project management skills and liaison skills and acts as a mentor to junior technicians and technologists. I am a self-motivated team player, multitask, quick learner and ambitious professional with extensive experience and knowledge gained within highly professional organizations. I am a competent communicator at all levels, both with internal and external customers. I am flexible and dependable in any situation and able to work accurately with minimal or no supervision, either independently or as part of a cross-functional team and ambitious professional. I am also a consistently pleasant person, tackling all assignments with diligence, dedication and a high sense of commitment. For these reasons I believe I am well suited for the opportunity.

Management skills, good personal skills, team work,
I hold MSc in Environmental Biotechnology from Rhodes University and practice in the quality assurance discipline, experience in the safety and health and environmental management. Besides this relevant technical experience, I do have a considerable top management and policy formulation exposure. I am currently working as Mineral Tenure and Environmental specialist where I am responsible for compliance to all the environmental licenses and Records of Decision (RoD) for the company’s tire pyrolysis plant, cement plant and depot environmental application, prospecting rights, railway sidings and coal wash plant. I'm responsible for compliance of all the operations mentioned above, to do audits, inspections, communicate with the departments(i.e DMR, DEA, GDARD). I work well with colleagues even though when it comes to compliance it is challenging to work with engineers. I enjoy providing advice and also learning new things.
Pros: Handling different industries (mining, manufacturing, consulting, office environment) which is an opportunity for growth

Excellent communicator
I am a good team player with colleagues and the clients. It is always hard to satisfy the client but the effort and passion for what i do keeps me going all the time. I always strive to learn from others and the work environment and that completes me.

Excellent learning curve
I am responsible for monitoring of construction progress, issuing site instructions and controlling project scope (variation orders). As Lead Engineer I hold weekly team meetings and discuss the scope of work in hand and then distribute the work to the engineers in charge and then set up time frame and the due dates. I do also check as-built drawings and incorporate them in our drawing output. I then prepare project budget estimates for the works. I also have been preparing tender documentation and bill of quantities and Adjudicate tenders and preparing tender recommendation report. I prepare timesheets and claims before giving it to the engineering manager to final authorisation.

RHDHV is a great company to work for
It is a wonderful company to work for in terms of growth and experience. Our systems are global which helps build vast experience. The typical day at the office is maintaining the diaries of my Director and Snr management Arranging all the travel requirements including visa applications. Checking advertised tender opportunities on the market by visiting the necessary websites and newspapers and assisting with compiling the technical proposal of same Organising team building excises to boost staff morale, this is also my favourite part of my work. It does not have to be anything fancy at sort conference facilities but little things as organising pizza for lunch/cake for tea time/ or game night to celebrate the wins/birthdays/project completion/ or any other social events.
Pros: Although RHDHV is a great company, i do not see room for promotion or growth as the company is shrinking yearly (more than 10 local offices have been closed)

Huge exposure to global companies operating in multiple African countries and government relations
During a typical work week, one of my biggest tasks is checking in on my staff and assessing progress on various projects. I like to meet first thing on Mondays to discuss our priorities for the week, then meet again in the middle of the week to check progress, and once at the end of the week to discuss goal setting for the next week. I meet with smaller groups of my staff in the middle of the week to troubleshoot any issues. For example, during a recent mid-week meeting, I noticed one team was a few days behind on a long-term project. I met with the team and, together, we came up with a strategy for increasing efficiency. I also attend a weekly meeting where I present my department’s progress to the executive board. On Fridays, I make sure all tasks are completed and I've sent all the necessary communications via email and in person. Finally, I create a list of priorities for next week.
Pros: Great opportunity for global business exposure and government relations
Cons: Lots of travelling but its part of the job

It's a tough environment with a European model being applied to an African environment.
Working from home is cool. I have a great relationship with co-workers, we really get on well, a few exceptions being accepted. I do not get on with most of the current and previous line management as they are and were not skilled to fulfil ther function properly. I have grave concerns about the future of construction supervision, being deemed off-strategy by the company. This was our core activity in SA until a year or two back resulting in massive downsizing measures. I can't help but wonder when it will be my turn. I have learned a lot about how not to treat people. The biggest challenge is to stay positive.

Cons: Line Management not adequately skilled to do the job
