Great Exposure and PLC experience

A typical work day involves me taking part in toolbox talks in the morning.Safety is key and my current workplace. After morning meetings and depending on the work schedule for the i either attend to breakdowns for the day or do planned maintenance or shut work. Currently i am involved in FDS (Functional Design Specification) document creation. This means that on a daily basis i get to verify PLC codes with process documentation. I have been able to create(Plant check and AUTOCAD draughting) and validate P&IDs for the whole of Richards Bay Minerals. I currently report to the PCS(Process Control Systems) Engineer.I love my job being able to code, calibrate and do maintenance work. I love challenges and the current challenge i am facing is creating an FDS with no plant documentation basically to reverse engineer a PLC code so that an operator or someone who does not know the plant will be able to understand how the plant operates

Pros: Great exposure to PLC and coding
Cons: Limited chances of promotion

To learn new things everyday to avoid routine day job and become complacent

Doing plant maintenance everyday and shut preps and be involved in a shut work once a week Always nice to work with people since you learn and teach each other new things and that becomes a vibrant working environment Learnt that your job becomes more easier if you empower one another and be always ahead on the schedule to avoid your job leading you. your job must follow you Enjoy fault finding and troubleshooting and rectifying complex faults. From time to time ive been taken to different plants to go and assist if they had an ongoing faults for quite sometime. The most common challenge is the changing of technology now and then, so you must always be on the lookout for new innovations and try to keep up and sometimes you wont have money for that and then becomes more challenging, then you have to settle with what you have.

Pros: always enrich yourself and learn everyday and try to rest when you are at home all the time to avoid fatigue
Cons: unfortunately you have to work overtime and standby so you must always be prepared

Effective learning evaluation

I have successfully developed the procedures of testing circuit breakers, transformers and protection relays. On Monday's we normally do calculations for energy report on the side of metering and power quality. I have learnt how to test different types of relays and have better understanding of their operation. The communication with my co-workers is always good and kept professionally when needed. When working with my co-workers, I clearly communicate in-case I request more understanding on given task. I enjoy being involve at any problem solving situation which gives me opportunity to address the situation with the creative solution.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion.
Cons: Be of help during shuts and breakdowns.

Great mining experience

Workdays start normally but can really turn to a headache in a moment when a pipe leak is detected. I've learnt to work without supervision, be pro active and give proper feed backs to my supervisor. You never know if you're going home on knock off time.

Pros: Great learning experience and chances of promotion
Cons: A lot of breakdowns due to aging pipeline

Strong interpersonal skills and communication are of my highest value.

I possess in total, 18 years’ experience in the heavy industries environment working as, Electrical Apprentice, Instrument Apprentice, and Instrument mechanic. Throughout my career I have demonstrated the ability to establish strong client relation; I am a willing learner, self-developer and I admire the prospect of new challenges. Practical training of these life saving behaviours to new apprentices/trainees/artisans also formed part of many of my safety related duties.I have a very strong resilience when it comes to tackling challenging tasks. I am able to work either in a Team or as an individual. I possess strong understanding of the Technical issues of electrical and instrumentation equipments, Hydraulics, Pneumatics and mechanical

Pros: development
Cons: willing to work under pressure
