Adapting to the international standards

Great to work for this company, more especially with the start of the integration, we have been exposed to new ways of conducting yourself on the daily basis, how to deal with employees and look after the overall business objectives at the same time. Learning how to deal differently with the government business, how protect the brand's reputation and still maximize profit

Great experience

Great staff and management. A typical day at work consisted of morning meetings, day to day operation of dealing with people and handling guest complaint. Assisting with reservation and maintaining a good standards of the Company. I looked forward to seeing how far we are from reaching our target, that's what I enjoyed most. The most challenging aspect is dealing with staff members who aee reporting directly to you.

Strong willed

Recently completed studying culinary Arts at capsicum I haven't had much experience. Although before I went to study I was a employee at Protea Hotel Highveld for one year, during my course of studying I did go into industry and had a total of 9 months. When I needed place to go for industry, as I had to organise myself a place I got hold of my previous employer and gladly took me into the kitchen. Working in the kitchen results into pressure and still great enjoyment. When I was working before studying I always tried to help all the staff members in learning and doing what I could do and they taught me a few things in return. The one thing I enjoy the most is the pastry kitchen, making all those fine desserts and something everyone just loves and enjoys is the best thing of all.

Daily duties

Weekly reviewing of marketing plans Daily checking of revenues versus budgets and action Dealing with daily staff concerns - GM needs to have open door policy for all the TEAM to feel free to raise their concerns at all times. Managing of departmental heads - HOD's needs to be led at all times to ensure that they manage they department effectively to ensure optimum profit Daily dealing with GUEST concerns - As a general manager it is your responsibility to ensure that GUEST health and safety is maintained at all times.

Pros: Always learning new things after the integration with Marriott
Cons: More time spent on administration in order to be inline with Marriott's international policies

Hospitality

Working at Protea hotels was very challenging , and I absolutely enjoyed working with different guest from outside South Africa , I loved all about hospitality industry and I've learnt a lot thanks to team protea

Gaining more experience

It is amazing to work with people, especially if you have a great TEAM by your side. Understand different cultures and back grounds. Work as a Team to achieve a common goal. Always put your Guest 1st and create a relationship with them, to keep continuous business relationships and consistency.

I interact with diferent types of people, in diferent ways. Conduct all check ins and check outs with an experiance and a story to tell. I also have a great relationship with my peers. I an a hospitalian an heart.

Great working experience and learning curve

The corporate industry is hard even for us in hospitality and we are under payed and over worked and we are not given credit for hard work or deals that have gone through because of your hard work

Job satisfaction

Job satisfaction working condition is good because i worked normal hours which 8 hours. my relationship with co-workers is extremely well whereby we communicate a lot with work related most of the time through team work and helping each other on different tasks given. my challenges come whereby i am told what to do because i know why i am hired to to do.

Pros: working under pressure makes me do my work faster and efficiency
Cons: It takes a courage for me to work for long hours to finish any work given.
