Excellent learning opportunities

As our hours are billable so it is work, work, work. The people are for most part friendly with your few odd balls. There are many opportunities to learn new things as the company is big on staff training. I just used to enjoy getting up in the morning with the knowledge that I was happy to be going to work. The most challenging aspects are the deadlines and having to juggle the wants of other clients around those.

Cons: Long working hours and no bonuses

Excellent working experience

I am currently an audit supervisor at PKF Durban. I assist in managing a team of 30 clerks. At PKF I work directly with the partner, this has allowed me to gain significant knowledge. I also liaise directly with clients on a daily basis. The job is extremely deadline driven, this has therefore allowed and taught me to respect deadlines. The lost challenging aspect is that the audit industry is extremely regulated you are required to be up to date with all regulations and changes.

Pros: Opportunity to gain experience in different industries
Cons: Many different personalities to cope and deal with

Excellent experience and exposure in audit for various entities in various industries.

It is a full non-stop working day with 8 hours of chargeable time. There are various sections to be audited. Working with clerks is sometimes challenging as they require a lot of time to teach them what to do. Working with certain managers is also challenging as they often require you to keep sending them work which you would have sent the first time. Auditing is however enjoyable as some clients are pleasant and helpful with what is needed. I have learnt a lot in terms of how to audit complex transactions.

Cons: working long hours with un-organised managers

Good

Doing my last year of articles at PKF Durban was great and I learnt so much. Being expose to much bigger client taught me a lot. I had a great time and I enjoyed my time with PKF team.
