Diversity in the company is excellent

I have acquired a lot of different skills in the company. My qualification allows me to work technically where as my computer and software skills allow me to work in other fields of work. My excellent communication skills allow me to communicate well when I am supporting customers physically and over the phone. A typical work day for me is compiling reports and supporting customers. I am a team worker. My team and I are supportive of each other. In my team I have learnt that no work is designated for one person. Work is handled by everyone hence aquiring all the skills I have mentioned. I enjoy field work and meter programming the most. What is challenging the most for me is when a co-worker leaves. It is at this moment that I realise I am dependent on others as much as they depend on me.

Team player, hard worker, best practices

Ontec is a tender driven company. Thus, no real benefits for employees. I enjoy the challenges and the people. I enjoy my role and the opportunity to grow. I find it difficult working in a smaller company verses the rigid and invested process guidelines set forth in bigger companies. You know exactly where you stand in a bigger company, yet the world is an oyster at a smaller company. Colleagues become friendships yet familiarity breeds contempt, in some cases. There is still an old school approach to being a manager, with the I-instruct-you approach, as opposed to we-are-a-team approach I have been taught. Smaller companies with a tender portfolio as the backbone of their income ensures things like successful BEE participation and drive. They are appear to get more done with the little resources they have to their disposal. However they rely heavily on consultants for more specialised tasks, example strategic marketing.

Great learning Experience

Hard work Great work experience Loads of time on the road Customer interaction loads of team participation as well as working on my own Learnt a lot about municipalities and how they operate Learnt about the tender process We work with both public and private municipalities.

Pros: flexible working hours
Cons: no growth. people stay on 1 position for years regardless of work ethics
