Old Mutual Insure Reviews

Excellent learning curve asa I have a good understanding of the insurance industry

I deal with brokers on a daily basis doing quotes on motor or household and by doing this I have learned how premiums area calculated and how they also differ from client to client. I have a better understanding of the insurance industry now. It has tought me to work harder in everything I do and the importance of working well within a team as well. I enjoy helping clients with their queries and seeing them wanting more business with us as that tells me I am doing a good job when I get complemented. The job gets challenging when you get difficult clients that do not want to understand when you cannot do business with them especial those with a bad claim record and they do not want to follow the companies underwriting.

Pros: There is plenty of departments one can be exposed to as long as you are willing to learn you can grow within the insurance field
Cons: Dealing with difficult clients and working long hours can be very stresfull at times.

Great learning experience in Insurance industry

This a very good and healthy environment to work in and I have learnt a lot since I started in 2016 when I had no knowledge about short term insurance, now I can proudly say I am 80% informed about this industry. I have a healthy and happy working relationship with my colleagues and manager. I have also learnt the wellness side of the business as I am currently a Wellness Consultant. I enjoy making a difference in people's lives as I am a Wellness Consultant and making the employees feel healthy and good everyday with the initiatives that I have come up with. The most challenging thing about my job is listening to employees' problems that they face everyday; emotional, financial, physical, career, etc. But it feels good when someone says, "Thank you".

Pros: Opportunity for a permanent position when my contract end at the end of June 2018
Cons: There is no budget for permanent positiion for me

Challenging environment

It's company that it's more focused on client services to point we're it sometimes a bit unfair to employees but overall it's a good company, again recognizing employees it's something that company hardly does and which demotivate employees, even bonuses we hardly get, only employees in the sales department gets

Pros: Great environment with great people
Cons: Growth limited

Excellent Learning curve

Coming from the Public Sector there was a lot of pressure to excell and misspell the mith that all government employees are lazy. A month into my role I realized that it is an individual effort that determines who you are and within that short period my Team leader realized that and started trusting me with investigations into high value claims. I came to a realization that each and every role, industry has its own methodology and daily activities and all it took was for me to familiarize myself with the Policies , SOPs and the investigation methodology and I was able to apply my skills and knowledge in the field of investigation. I work well within a team and have gained a lot of contacts in other organizations.

Pros: I have managed to upskill myself and got certified as a Fraud examiner as well as an Ethics officer
Cons: Too much of a perfectionist

My current position

I deal with referrals on the Personal Lines side of things and the queries differ each and every day. The referrals can be anything from a technical nature, to system related matters. I generally get on well with my co-workers, although I do tend to put my head down and attend to the work that needs to be done. In the technical underwriting department, concentration is paramount in trying to get all queries sorted to the best of our ability. Each day is a learning experience - we are never too old to learn from one another. The things I enjoy the most - trying to sort out a "broken" policy, as we like to refer to them. There is nothing more enjoyable than actually being able to sort the problem out and have a satisfactory outcome for both the broker and client. The most challenging aspects of my job - that would be claims matters. They are challenging but yet again we learn each day from the different claims that are referred to the department.

Pros: Learning new things each and every day
Cons: The pressure from trying to keep within our stipulated turn-around times

Great stakeholder management skills

Working for Old Mutual Insure has taught me to stand up for my work, believe in it and always make my stakeholders happy with good quality work that stands out. There are times where it’s a drag to get up and go to work, but at the end of the day it’s all about how best you make the day as it goes by. Serving my business partners has taught me to automatically help people think strategically on how to deliver any kind of communications to business in a way that business can understand. I love to right, review and copy write, it gives me so much knowledge as I write for different business units, such as Risk, CSI and Customer Experience.

Pros: My stakeholders prefere working with me only as I have created a great plattform.
Cons: No growth in our company, they do not promote.
