I am currently employed by NEHAWU as the regional organizer at JHB region my duties deals with the following: To organize workers in companies, institution and NGO providing public service into Nehawu. Training and supporting Shopstewards so that they are capacitated to take their duties and proved high quality service and represent members. Represent members in grievance and disciplinary hearings. Refer cases to conciliation and arbitration using the machinery established within the sector or via the CCMA. Research and study case law in order to represent members effective. To be fully informed about union policies and strategies and be in the position to answer queries. Communicate with members and employer verbal and writing letters. Establish strong Health and Safety Committees in all Public Health institution. Ensure that compliance of Legislation such as PFMA, PSA, LRA and other legislation by the employer Understanding of Labour Court Rules and application

Excellent Learning Opportunity

- A typical work day involves a number of tasks i.e. Loading of EFT Payments; Receiving, Processing and Distribution of daily correspondence i.e. Letters, Travel Claims,Purchase Requisitions and Provincial & Regional Budgets etc. - My relationship with my co-workers is good due to the casual atmosphere which makes interactions with co-workers pleasant. - I have learned to be patient and to be able to work well under pressure. - The working relationships I have forged with my colleagues is what I enjoy the most. - The most challenging aspect is the lack of proper work processes.

Pros: The reasonable working hours.
Cons: There is no prospect for growth.

Busy month ends - learned to reaching deadlines

-daily capturing of bank statement -weekly debtors recons -posting of payments into Accpac -collection of outstanding paymets -I adapt easily into a group and can work unsupervised as well -I have learned to reaching deadlines especially demanding time like month end -The cashbook clerk was very slow in doing their job thus delaying mine. I had to ask permission to do my own payments postings into Accpac.

Pros: Opportunity to be independent
Cons: Debtors making payments later than agreed dates

Learning Curve

Great relationship with Co-workers. I came into the job with no experience, but am now excelling at it, with great Audit Results. The most challenging aspects were mostly goal posts being moved, and lack of motivation and appreciation from management

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion

Educational & Intersting

Working for Nehawu was Challenging,Educational & must of all Interesting. One has to sacrifice even personal time to ensure that quality job was completed at the end of the day. Meaning it required more Dedication, Loyalty and Responsibility

Pros: No promotion opprtunities
Cons: working long hours & uneder pressure sometimes

Great experience

Very challenging for the most part however found it to be a great experience for my future endeavors . Need a change because the current position does not grow and opportunity for growth is always needed

Excellent learning curve

Am having a very good experience in working as an admin in nehawu but it is a temporary work. to gain experience, and am having god time working here. i have a very good relationship with my co-workers, they can assist where i need help the most. I have learnt to organize, arrange meetings, making booking, making quotations and etc.

Excellent platform learning and expression of oneself

Advise the union leadership at national, provincial and regional level in relation to matters that affect the employees as well as the union. Representing the union in the CCMA and other forums. The most challenging aspect of the job is travelling as I am the only Labour Relations Officer and have to cover the national office, provincial offices as well as the regional offices.

Pros: Learning on a daily basis in dispute resolution
Cons: Working flexi hours and too much travelling

Administration and interpersonal skill

maintaining database for the members ,providing support in conduction meetings and workshops the relationship is good i have learned to work with team workers and attending cases to manage my time while working going to represent members at their workplaces that was the most enjoyable thing that i have ever done i had to learn to control my emotions during disciplinary hearing
