National Lotteries Commission Reviews

Making a difference

I work with different divisions mainly to manage all coordinating of NLC Capacity building and Education and Awareness programmes, communicating with the Training Service Provider and the Dti, Provincial Managers, Compliance and M&E officers for a confirmed project list for placements of interns in all of those projects. My excelent relationships with my coworkers enable me to successfully reach my daily, weekly, monthly goals in time. I learnt that my daily communication and team work is key in the work I do. Effective communication, managing the critical financial matters and working closely and transparently with all partners including third-party vendors and consultants. I love my ability to prioritise, work under pressure and meet deadlines, it enables me to work alone or as part of a team, and always ready to learn. Working on an unreliable system or program.

Pros: Exposure
Cons: Lots of travelling

Good earning

I work within the grant funding division which is a core business of the organisation. I manage more 1000 funded NGOs from different sectors which are Arts and culture, sports and recreation and charity sector. We work on a minimal team members while managing big numbers of applying organisations, from the inception of the grant to monitoring and evaluation and to closure of the project. Also represent my employer on stakeholder management events, whereby I conduct presentation, depending on the type of the event.

Pros: Great opportunity for furthering your studies
Cons: No opportunities for promotion

Excellent stepping stone for one's career

It's great at working at the National Lotteries Commission. We serve communities and Change their Lives for the better. We get well with coworkers even though there's been general continuous disgruntled due to non stop changes and unethical filing of posts. I enjoy my job because it requires me to be independent and I've really learnt a lot on that. I push myself to get to my targets because they are predetermined.

Pros: Pays well
Cons: Opportunity for growth very slim

I have working knowledge and experience in corporate governance, compliance and ethics management.

My days are spent in problem solving exercises to assist our Company Secretariat division or other divisions that require assistance with process improvement. December - February - acquire a document management tool with various capabilities, initially aimed at improving the Ethics Office programs but has subsequently been implemented as an organisation wide document management tool. March - June - system configuration and uploading of employee relevant content, policies, procedures and recently assist the NLC with Performance Contracting for the current financial year. Development of document standards for the organisation (Templates: Policies, Procedure manuals, submissions and other internal document) May - June - concurrently rollout ethics awareness campaigns, assess effectiveness of the same campaign. July - Ensure quarterly reporting happens effectively and efficiently by collating meeting packs, securing meeting dates, venues and ensuring the relevant officials update the various chairs

Pros: i could effectively and efficient manage an office
Cons: I have been long hours all my career and I understand that in high performance environments I could work longer hours to ensure success.

Gained good working experiance.

Work on the field 40 to 50% of my working hours every month. Work closely with grantees by visiting them to monitor the funds donated if they comply to the Grant Agreement. Have a good relationship with co-workers. Known as an employee with high integrity and trustworthy. I learnt to handle characters with different attitudes. I enjoy assisting disadvantaged communities and make a difference in their lives. My challenge is to travel extensively and the organisation has no opportunity of growth.

Pros: Gained good working expiriance
Cons: Travel extensively

Excellent Learning Curve

I work for a very interesting company, it is the only one of its kind in SA. What I love most about it is the fact that we make a huge difference in so many peoples lives. The company recently expanded to all 9 provinces in South Africa. The unit that I work in is one of the most crucial departments in the organisation. At this point in my career at my current company I feel that there is nothing new I can learn and that my job has became to routine like.

Pros: Great Benefits
Cons: No Growth
