National Empowerment Fund Reviews

Ambitious and goal driven

working in government is a daily pressure and daily deadlines . there are so many legislation procedures to follow and this is upsetting to our clients daily i have to explain why payment is not going to be on time as no procedures were followed dealing with supply chain and other departments on raising purchase orders getting invoices signed off , capturing thereof , processing and preparing payment as well as loading payment ,overseeing that smaller amounts below R50k are being processed by administrator , reviewing and approving the payments before uploading onto bank . Tight month end procedures closure before the 3rd of the new month preparing accruals based on open purchase orders , creditor statements and age analysis . Preparing age analysis vs creditor statements to ascertain which have overdue items not submitted.

Pros: high performance rating
Cons: filling on time

Working Environment

Having worked at the National Empowerment Fund, I have learned a lot in terms of culture and environmental. Each person feels welcomed even at the first day of joining the organisation. I have developed a good working relationship with the team and we are able to share information without fear. The NEF gives a person and opportunity to grow in terms of studies and promotions and we are allowed to work flexible hours.

Pros: Bonuses
Cons: Long working hours

Living the NEF values

Besides the extra working hours the organisation is a wonderful place to work in. my coworkers are actively caring and supportive. since joining the NEF i have learned patience as a person and as an employee as i had to wait for over 2 years to be permanent not that there was something wrong with me and my performance but i had to let due process take place. Challenging aspects to my job is that the work load is way above my pay grade and maybe there and there i might struggle to keep up but my colleagues are great so they always carry me when need be.

Pros: The values are great
Cons: Extra working Hours

AMBITIOUS ACHIEVER

ei I work in a very stressful but manageable finance department where every day is a deadline as payments are made weekly from R2000 up to R10 million as we a funding company . We parastatal to government so therefore we follow standard operating procedures that each of us set up ourselves as per our KPI’s and approved by National Treasury .Following the sop’s and meeting monthly reporting deadlines is none negotiable although the pressure is high I have become accustomed with “ working smarter instead of harder” . The NEF is like a family all issues are resolved immediately as in a family .Through the years I learned how to cope with conflict immediately, how to deal and treat different personalities and diversity. Most challenging part is performance although your work speaks for itself , motivation is still needed .

Pros: prospects to be in a different finance position
Cons: nepotism and no promotions as most roles on the same level unless a CA
