Typical Day for a rail policy intern

My day at work is field with meetings.Planning of meetings with outside stakeholders.Preparing policy launches and policy discussion classes accross SA.My job every day is to research and write position papers on various topics which might be included or should be looked at when writing a rail policy.I mostly help with administration, preparing reports, drafting minutes and answering and making calls to various stakeholders. After each project launch or big discussion meetings thank you letters are drafted by myself thanking each company or department for these contribution into the draft Green paper or white paper.I travel accross SA when needed as much as I don't do big presentations outside the office but I'm the support for the person presenting that day.I do daily readings of there's any new articles published I find them and make sure a written summary is done.

Pros: It's a great learning environment for getting entry level work experience
Cons: Not that much recognition is given to interns there train you in goverment and let you go at the end of the internship sometimes no matter how great you are

Good learning curve

I have worked as an environmental Control Officer and still feel my experience is not adequate. I was responsible for environmental compliance monitoring of construction activities to see that activities are being conducted in line with the Environmental Management Program Report, issued permits and licesses and Record of Decision. What i am looking for now is to join a strong team where i will be able to aquire more knowledge in both environmental Management and Safety management.

Pros: Great opportunity for learning more on safety management
Cons: Long working hours

Greate learning Curve

Working at the DoT is quite a great experience, it is a friendly working environment and everyone is open and willing to assist in anything one does not understand or require assistance. I have learnt how to conduct myself in the work place and the work ethics to preserve. The most challenging thing (and It's also what I enjoy the most) is that my superiors are always welling to provide me with numerous tasks (which might seem to be beyond my experience) without supervision and I would complete such tasks. I always wake up in the morning with such great energy knowing what an enjoy full environment I am going to (which is a typical work environment I would always love to work in)

Pros: Greate opportunity for compiting with my peers in job hunting
Cons: None, whatsoever

Legal services

The work environment if adaptable and welcoming daily and the relationship with co-workers is very professional and comfortable. I have learned to be able to work individually and apply my mind where applicable, to work effectively under pressure and manage weakness into strength as well as to be productive in each and every business day.The part that i enjoy the most is to work and attend meetings in the present of Executives,DG,s and line functions, it's very inspiring and drives me to work hard to reach their level. The most challenging parts is having nothing to do, as a hardworking person i do not want to go through a business day having nothing to do, i hate it.

Pros: To work with Executives, Director General's and line functions
Cons: Not having much say just obeyer
