Moore Stephens Reviews

Learning ground

I work at an accounting firm where it is pressure filled with deadlines. A typical day at work would include me working on a set of financial statements for a group client, me sending emails to clients requesting information or following up on other uncertain matters regarding their books. It is sometimes filled with me also liaising with the South African Revenue regarding clients audited VAT refunds or escalating matters of clients that have been long outstanding. I have a good working relationship with all my current colleagues. I am helpful where I am needed and they are also willing to help if I am the one seeking help. I have learnt how to cope under pressure and seeking alternative solutions if one does not work. I have enjoyed the challenges as they have helped me grow as an individual. I have also learned to think on my two feet and use my own discretion where necessary.

Pros: Great learning opportunity
Cons: Long working hours

Excellent learning curve

I work at a globally recognized company that is in the accounting, advisory and external auditor. I work from 7h30 am to 16h30 pm from Monday to Friday, 40 hours a week. I work well with my colleagues and interact well to the benefit of the company, meet deadlines and get the job done. My company is based in Pretoria, Lynnwood. I enjoy working in a team, sharing ideas and interacting with people from different cultural background with different views about politics, culture and ethics. Interacting with people help me to keep learning and keep knowing about different things from different aspects. I have learned a lot about industries and clients i am involved with, business process, reporting style and the people. I have valuable experience in auditing and accounting together with ensuring compliance with tax legislation. The most challenging aspects about my job is to keep up with different clients process and system as the clients don't used same accounting system.

Pros: Great growth and opportunities.
Cons: No overtime for long hours spent travelling to clients

Excellent learning curve

I typical work day involves working from 8am to 4:30pm. I start by planning for audits, to performing the work and finalizing. I have learnt to work independently and in a group. I enjoyed the work culture and the work environment. I had a very good relationship with my co-workers. We had fun and we learnt how to fight and resolve those fights. The most challenging aspects of my job were the sometimes long hours and at the time I had a very small baby. The other challenge was juggling work, family and studies.

Pros: Great learning for promotion
Cons: Training contract ended
