Excellent for learning and growing yourself in chemistry techniques and the business side of it

I am a Senior Analytical Chemist who holds major responsibilities in distributing results for analysis, dealing with client queries and ensuring that quality is adhered to in the laboratory. In our department we work as team and thus we have maintained that good relationship amongst ourselves and our manager and supervisor. Having spent more than 5 years in the job I have learnt so much. I am comfortable with doing any analysis and with dealing with clients as well. The most challenging aspects of the job are when we have a lot samples to do and have to meet our lead times as per customer agreement, but my wealth of experience has made that manageable.

Pros: Great opportunity of learning.
Cons: Limited growth.

Growth and development

The company I work for is not big there is not a lot of room for development. As a microbiologist we I focus on samples to be analyzed and we work as a team. I am also in charge of stock and inventory management for the lab. Therefore I have to deal with suppliers as well from time to time.

Pros: No room for promotion
Cons: Long working hours

The company is excellent to work for however there is a high expectation to continually go beyond what is required but with limited training. So it becomes difficult to perform well as you lack the required skills.

Pros: Access to many clients and a wealth of knowledge
Cons: Long working hours, always on call, high pressure work environment
