Synopsis for working at MDDA

My work involves a lot communication between me and the projects that we fund and those that require funding, and communication between me and fellow employees. It also involves a lot of travelling particularly when we are assessing projects as part of board preparations and also during contracting of the projects that have been approved by the board. Some of the skills that I have learned include the following : Project Management, Time Management, and being Deadline Driven. What I enjoy the most is helping communities to have access, ownership and control of the media as part of the developmental role that MDDA plays. The most challenging aspect of my job is travelling and working irregular hours.

Pros: Gaining experience in all aspects of project management
Cons: Working long and irregular hours

Experienced Executive Assistant with more than 10 years

My typical day starts by making sure thatbmy line manager has managed to work.according to.the diary,should there be changes I should work on them immediately, I arrange travel,take minutes in meetings ,work on.the daily administration, and respond to queries addressed to the CEO office

Good short term opportunity

I've learnt to take responsibility of what you do. As much as you are a team player but already you are your own manager. You have a responsibility to ensure that your job represents you. The most challenging aspect is when you have to think for others all the time. One other challenge is that there are no chances of promotion.

Pros: Good place when you want to study
Cons: No opportunity for growth

Constant opportunities to learn

I particularly enjoy compiling legislative compliance framework and tracking developments. I enjoy this as it enables me to keep abreast with legal developments. It also allows me to make strategic recommendations on how the organisation can develop, review and implement policies that increases compliance status. An example is when the compliance matrix I developed indicated a weakness in record management and thus an intervention had to be developed.

Pros: Being part of high level meetings with Shareholder, Board, Sector Stakeholder, Funders and EXCO, and being able to offer advice at these levels.
Cons: Intensity of politics informed by the general politics of the country. Cabinet reshuffles. Having no control in board appointments and thus ending up with inquorate board at times.

Great team player, supportive, smart and hard working

Have a good relationship with colleagues very supportive, work is very demanding and busy but it always gets done. Very interesting interacting with different stakeholders, from politicians to CEO's and CFO's small communities trying to make a difference in peoples lives

Pros: ability to learn due to small environment. touching peoples lives
Cons: high pressure as im the only one in the unit, extreme elwork load
