Mayfair Hotel Reviews

Great learning curve

The hotel is a new of its kind inthatha and its a 4 star hotel. It hahas 95 rooms and 3 boardrooms. Its a state of the art but it has a lots of new staff in the industry with no experience but with some training they will come right.a lot of business we are getting a lot of government business than leasure or Private. It still has a lot of potential to grow.

Pros: A new hotel with a lot of potential and pays well
Cons: No team work on different departments.

Lovely work experience

8 am to 5pm work day with a few exceptions of overtime when need be: month end closing, year end closing. Head Office work. My relationship with co-workers is great, we get along extremely well. I've learnt fundamental skills of leadership in this role: assertiveness, balancing work relationships vs social relationships with colleagues outside of work. I've gained confidence in report presentations. I enjoy the flexibility of work hours, as long as all the work is done on time. Most challenging aspect for me is my superior not understanding the importance of being granted study leave. He usually wants it to come out of annual leave, which is rather unfair when the company does provide for study leave.

Pros: Great relationship with colleagues
Cons: Micromanagement

Excellent learning curve

The hotel is a 4* star property, with occupancies of 90-100 daily. We get guests from all over the world, we do special caterings to wedding, birthdays etc. I have learned a lot from this hotel as I was part of the opening management team in 2017. The most challenging aspects of my job is dealing with guest that are difficult and who are not willing to understand the policies we have, eg. check out times and check in times

Pros: No chance of promotion
Cons: Long hours

I'm kind person who knows how to work with people

I was rotating the whole departments in our hotel, I was more like a reliever, most department I fell in love with was front of house being a receptionist was my favourite part. Although you have to smile the whole day but I enjoyed every moment of it.

Pros: Yes
Cons: Yes I don't mind
