Insurance representative

I have worked for Marsh as a National Policy Administrator from August 2012 31 December 2015. I came to Marsh through a Learnership program in 2012 and I had the pleasure of being placed to iConnect and learning from my mentor/manager and colleagues within our division who have years of experience in the Insurance industry. The program covered all of the industry products from Personal lines to Commercial lines. We spent the first four months of the program attending lectures at Workers Academy of Insurance and the rest of the nine months we were doing workplace training at Marsh. I’m currently looking for a challenging position, one which will make use of gaining skills and experience whilst enabling personal and professional development. I’m willing learn and to work in a profit driven business enterprise that also focus on skills training for the employees. To gain knowledge that is going to help me achieve my goal of becoming a Compliance officer.

Pros: I worked and learnt from lots of clever people, and i was rotated into a several departments within the company.
Cons: Workplace distractions such as co-worker on the phone or dropping by to chat

A great opportunity to expand my career

A typical day at work is making sure that a keep every stakeholders happy as I deal and resolve many issues daily. The relationship with t]my co workers is great were we teach each other and in order to improve our knowledge. But I am looking to expand my growth in a company were they encourage growth

Corporate Experience

I would receive new IOD claims which then I have to open new files for them, and then make labels and tags for them, from there I have to scan them into our server and file them in our filing cabinet. I am very passionate about organizing and keeping records. I am very much client oriented and I love working with people. I am eager to learn something new every day, I am a dedicated worker, self-stater/motivated to take up a challenge, all the time; focused; I believe that learning is the best way to upgrade one's self. I am always looking for every opportunity.

Great career exposure

Learnt how to negotiate insurance terms and look at the client's risk exposure and recommend risk for their exposure based on legislations and draft policy contracts in terms of the required legislation. I enjoy the challenges that come from each client based on what they do, for example, mining, finance, manufacturing.

It's a good start up foundation

The company is a good company, global firm with a footprint worldwide, however the culture is a bit stringent. Very few young employees get promoted. It was a great foundation though, learning about the insurance industry, the market. Negotiating skills need to be on point. I enjoy that process of getting client adequate cover but also making sue that the interests of the insurer are adhered to.

Have client meetings on a monthly basis to ensure settlement

Dealing with motor and non motor claims. Appointing of assessor to assess vehicle on motor claim appointing of loss adjuster to adjust fire claim,burglary and assets claims. Deal with problematic claims on a daily basis. Do claims reports for clients on a monthly basis and have monthly clients meeting. Deal with staff problems. Claims meeting with staff on a monthly basis.

Pros: Adapt very easy to change and enjoy different challenges
Cons: Always going the extra mile and working long hours to ensure client satisfaction.

Excellent Learning Curve

Typical workday starts at 7am. Emails has to be cleared daily. Minutes to be done on a daily basis for telephone and other meetings. Helping clients remains the most satisfying part of this role.

I have so far learn a lot in terms of the industry

I obtained some certificates relating to Negotiation Skills ,Conflict Management and Presentation Skills, also Time Management Skills. One of my greatest skill is that I work well within a team and individually, I work very well and effectively without supervision. I have added value in the division that I am in, I do multitask in most occasions and I very accurate and can do the right things and do them right the first time> Every time.

Pros: Great opportunity to learn and develop my skills, travelling and also incentives on educational financing
Cons: No Bonus and Longer working hours
