Life Healthcare Reviews

Wonderful company to work for.

I love Mondays, mostly because the day flies by in a flash. On a given day, during the early hours we attend a HOD (Head of Department) meeting whereby we find out – proactively – what the teams priorities are for the week, meeting with management team for a few hours to communicate the HOD's needs and organizing the team schedules around the HOD's priorities. I do this on Monday so that the rest of the week is well organized and we can effectively use our team’s time in exceeding the stakeholders (patients, specialists and general practitioner) expectations and avoid Friday evening surprises. Rest of the week involves executing all the duties we agreed on with the team on Monday. I also usually respond to emails and calls from our stakeholders. My role involves extensive management responsibilities and staying organized is not an option.

Pros: Flexible working hours
Cons: Limited resources

Nursing Standards Manager

As Nurse Standards manager to do daily handover of hospital, standing in for NM when absent from premises. Managing staffing and labor hours, investigation and management of incidents and complaints. Planning and implementation of training, new policies and procedures, staff induction program and developing best operating practices according to risk assessments. Leading by example and building relationships with unit managers, staff and contracting services. Each day is a learning opportunity as well as a training opportunity. On each round in the units I am involved with staff and patients in order to identify any needs for improvement of services and where necessary, training needs. On the spot training is valuable, as it leaves an employee with a piece of empowerment to feel growth and enjoy his/her job fully with the possibility of training another colleague. The most challenging aspects of my job is to develop all staff towards the expected standards and retaining them after the training was done.

Pros: Opportunity for promotion in the area is very limited due to staff in these positions not resigning and their usbands in strong positions rim which they will not leave either.
Cons: As soon as you focus on the negative, you loose your energy for poitive things to happen. I refuse to become a negativist.

CHALLENGING BUT EXCITING POSITION

MY JOB AT THE LIFE COLLEGE OF LEARNING IS A STRESSFUL POSITION HOWEVER WHAT MAKES IT EXCITING IS THE FACT THAT ITS CONSTANTLY CHANGING. THERE IS NO ROUTINE. I HAVE AN EXCELLENT RELATIONSHOIP WITH MY CO-WORKERS. I WORK VERY WELL INDEPENDANTLY AS WELL AS PART OF A TEAM. BEING A REGIONAL ADMINISTRATOR REQUIRES A LOT OF MULTITASKING AND THIS POSITION HAS TAUGHT ME HOW TO MAULTITASK ON A WHOLE NEW LEVEL. THIS POSITION AS A WHOLE IS CHALLENGING AS ONE HAS TO KEEP THE PACE HOWEVER I THOROUGHLY ENJOY WHAT I DO.

Pros: excellent opportunity to learn various duties
Cons: extremely fast paced environment

Procurement for future economic challenges

Fast paced from start to finish, tackling problems that arise from the business as well as suppliers and being able to solve them within a day if not sooner. Learning to collaborate rather than work in isolation, that's my moto, and allows me to work well with others. Being able to harness and utilise colleagues from different departments strengths and in return assist were they require my skill set. I have learn through open discussion and collective thinking , new innovative ideas are generated. Best part of what I do is the supplier interaction and price negotiations, monitoring the ROE and purchasing at the right time to ensure efficient stock holding and timeous lead times are met. Most challenging part at present due to the countries economic situation is cost containment.

Pros: Subsidised medical aid, good pension and maternity benefits
Cons: Corporate culture, micro management , lack of proper recognition for poformance, no room for growth

The trials of a Midwife

I enjoy my job at a maternity unit in Lifehealthcare. I work nightshift and I am the teamleader. Some nights can be stressful especially if I am working with new staff that dont know the department. I have a really good relationship with my co-workers and we work well as a team. What I find challenging in my job is the staffing issues. Often there are not enough trained and experienced midwives so if a staff member/midwife is off sick or on leave it is very difficult to find a replacement. The midwives that we do find sometimes have no private hospital experience so it makes it difficult when it comes to protocols and policies.

Pros: close to home. less travelling time
Cons: long shifts, cant take leave when it is needed as it is difficult to find replacement
