Kzn Department of Health Reviews

It really equipped me be able to handle all kinds of situations

Working in the Department equips you to handle pressure, there is no typical day. Its a busy environment. Its helps a person stay focussed on the given tasks meet deadlines, prioritise work according to importance. You definetly have to be a team player. Completing any given task timeously is a must especially with statistics on monthly submissions to head office. Keeping updated with new policies & procedures is a must to survive. There are slow days as well when you get to complete the days or months tasks. Its very exciting it gives you a sense of satisfaction especially when completing reconciliation balancing for the month. I have learnt to be independant, as well as a team player. I enjoyed the challenges the job came with. I always give 101% in every task.

Pros: It teaches you discipline, focus & makes you determine to complete & meet deadlines
Cons: It has changed a lot. Its difficult for promotions

Excellent learning curve

Duties on daily basis I report on duty at7h00 and as a school health nurse I start by checking with the school if its ready for the services at agreed time. then assist with delivering of medication for chronic clients who are in the CENTRALISED CHRONIC MEDICATION DISPENSING AND DISTRIBUTION programme done at our clinic. Then go to school for any school health service for the day. And if there are campaigns I'll start by doing micro planning for the campain and send IIT to relevant heal senior to make them aware of our population and stock needed to complete the campain. Challenges that we facing with the team is the transport to go to work sometimes we end up apologising to the school that was expecting us which will make them not to take our services serious.

Pros: Great opportunity to grow and stand on your own
Cons: Shortage of staff

Excellent environment

As an Asset Auditor I perform the following duties: Implement and provide input to the movable asset management strategic plan, assist in the preparation of a listing of movable assets that area required to be purchased or leased to meet service delivery requirements.Validate completed movable asset transfer forms, compile the monthly reports on the internal transfer of movable assets, maintain the movable asset register. Assist in the reconciliation of the FAR to the Financial Systems/ General Ledger. Assist in assessing the security of the environment and in the implementation of appropriate security plans. During the period I have been with Department of Health, I have acquired vast experience in various aspects of Assets Management and Procurement. I have showed a great deal of competence in the work I have carried out and have a potential to make a valuable contribution at any department or company.

Pros: Great opportunity to learn

Management skills as I am managing the HR Component as a whole

typical work day is dealing HR Issues of employees, making them to understand any HR policies, how to become a better employee. My relationship with co-workers is professional at the same time being there for them to understand our company cultures, values. I have learnt to be independent and to explore beyond my abilities, I have discovered that every employee is differ to another also dealing with employees with different cultures. I enjoy being able to handle the pressure of managing a component and to do what I love which is HR environment. the most challenges is when an individual or the employees fail to understand or when they differ to understand any regulations and at the same time you as an HR personnel must make sure that you make them understand, also you must ensure how to talk to your employees, the way you conduct yourself. basically being the example of the company as a whole.

Pros: learning to be make decision on my own, learning independence
Cons: no growth

Excellent learning curve

I work in deep rural clinic in the ICDM-HAST unit. On a regular day i see plus minus 98 patients. Being in the unit has exposed me to ART intiation, traching, testing and follow-up. The best thing in my workplace is that we a team and there is always someone willing to help you learn a new thing- team work. Lastly I've gained experience of how to handle a community as they all come with different attitudes. Only challenging aspects would be the traveling distance but again once at work one completely forgets as a typical day starts at 7am and sometimes ends at 17h30 due to the demand of service.

Pros: Opportunity to specialize
Cons: Large number of patients daily

Average

The security of the job is great but it can get monotonous, especially for a young person. Bureaucracy and regulations also prevent new ideas from being implemented.
