Excellent learning Curve

A typical work day consists of attending daily safety meeting , going underground inspection of section and machines, testing the sperosens on continuous miner, doing a flameproof inspection on all machines, gate-end boxes and section transformer. Doing maintenance on machines in section when not in production and attending to breakdowns. I have gained quite a bit of knowledge regarding underground coal mining operations and machines that are used in those types of operations.

Pros: Competitive Salary
Cons: Working Shifts, no opportunity for promotion and current job insecurity

Challenging

Good company to work, good team work. Good communication, safety come first before anything we do risk assessment whereby u write all risk and hazard with their control to minimise risk.

Excellence

I have 20 years of experience as an electrician. I am hard working and not afraid of learning and love challenges. I was retrenched and am working at PT operations repairing street lights. It is a good job for a person going on pension and I am far from that.

Complex working environmennt

The mine has complex geological conditions and less pit room to place sections making it a very stressful and uncertain working environment to work in. It is an extremely old mine with history and infrastructure. It is therefore hard to close down and move to newer less complex conditions. Due to the recent economic downturn, it has become difficult to move to another job. My team is great, but there is low morale related to the recent and occasional change in ownership. There are less prospects of personal development in my current career at my current employer and the only way is out.

Pros: A great learning opportunity in terms of business dynamics and gorvenance
Cons: Uncertain working environment
