Life at Kelvin Power

Working Kelvin Power was a great introduction to Power Plant Operations, Specifically Boiler Chemistry and Water Treatment. I'm at a point where a typical day is extremely routine and i feel i can do my duties with my eyes closed, Even the more complex troubleshooting. I have a very good working relationship with my co-workers but i feel my manager lacks managerial skills, Shuts down our ideas to innovate and doesn't stand up for his department when he needs to. He's an easy going person who is set in his ways. What i enjoy most is conveying knowledge and mentoring those around me, And i've become proficient at running the Lab operations so i enjoy solving the more complex tasks, it's more challenging that the daily routine. The most challenging aspects of my job is team work. We are understaffed, and with the little staff we have, there is now amicable solution to solve the shortage problem, again, ideas are being shut down.

Pros: Quarterly Bonuses, Annual Profit share, 75% medical aid cover, Pension Fund contributions, Standby Allowance
Cons: Short staffed, overworked, Weekend work, little growth opportunities, Difficult manager.

Great environment to work work in. Suitable for any qualified candidate to to jell in quickly. With their user friendly instruments. environment ment

A good Learning Curve coming from the mining sector

Good relationship with co-workers Treating people with respect gets a lot more work done. I enjoy the PLC programming and Scada Design The challenging aspect was learning and still learning a new PLC and Scada ( Mitsubishi )

Pros: Great management and PLC experience
Cons: 24/7 availability without compensation

Great opportunity and learning experience

I have learnt and gained lots of experience at Kelvin. Managing different project teams , so dealing with people and conflicts have been on the top of the list. Its an old plant so its busy all the time with damage control so multi tasking between projects and maintenance is a daily occurrence, definitely never a boring day at Kelvin.

Pros: Great Medical Aid Benefit and Lots to learn
Cons: Uncertainty with PPA , therefore not sure of powerstation life span
