Kangra Coal Reviews

Great working experience. Opportunity to learn at a corporate level.

A typical work day would include, Signing off documentation (levels of authority),Negotiations,Contract Placing,Budget and financial reviews,Contract Management Budget Forecasting,Procurement and Warehouse management, Replenishment of Stock,Expediting,BBBEE compliance,Mining charter compliance, Socio Economic Development. My relationship with co-workers is excellent. I have learnt that although you may forecast and plan, not everything may go the way you expect. You should always have a plan B. I enjoyed mostly the new challenges faced everyday, each day had its own set of challenges, which made you stretch out of your comfort zone and ensure delivery. The most challenging aspect, was working with people who were not qualified for the job but was promoted because of unions. This meant that other people had to do more to cater for this gap.

Pros: Great opportunity for promotion and remuneration packages
Cons: Working hours

Current position Procurement Officer

I currently acting as Procurement Manager for last three months. I fullfil this role without additional incentive. I have worked in Procurement for the last 7.5 years and enjoy the work. I am employed as a Procurement Officer and supervise 5 Buyers and an admin clerk. Our daily work is a bit frustrating because of current electronic systems not being in place most work is manual. Obtaining approvals is difficult. The current buyers are not trained buyers and cause a lot of pressure as they do not understand policies and procedures. However I get along well with all my contacts workers. I have learnt to handle a lot of difficult situations and learned to address large groups of people and handle site meetings etc. Due to the amount of work I have to work after hours and weekends. Although we were told we would get Bonus it was changed that admin staff do not receive production Bonus. We do not receive any bonus only the 13th cheque.

Pros: Great opportunity to gain experience
Cons: Working far from home and long hours

Poeople is more important than your own personal achievements.

Work starts at 06:00. At 6:30 I have a meeting with all my co-workers to discuss the planned day ahead and if yesterdays planned work has been achieved. The most important lesson in life is that by treating my co-workers with respect they will always stand with you after a decision has been made even if it did not work. The most challenging aspect is that with all contractor coming onto the Mine premises it is not always easy to plan to the last detail.

Pros: Meeting all kinds of different people from different backgrounds
Cons: The volumes of people attending training sometimes

Poeople is more important than your own personal achievements.

Work start at 06:00 which is followed at 6:30 by a meeting with staff to discuss the days activities and if what was discussed yesterday were achieved. I have learned that if you treat your employees with respect and fairness they will stick with you even if the wrong decision has been taken. I enjoy meeting all the different people from different backgrounds. Most challenging is to accommodate the high number of contractors coming on to the premises.

Pros: Meeting all kinds of different people from different backgrounds
Cons: The volumes of people attending training sometimes

Opportunity to be fully responsible for my Job

my typical work day includes matching invoices to delivery notes, to system , sorting queries doing creditors recons & running the payment on syspro. we have over 300 active suppliers & over 150 big transaction wise suppliers. we pay over 80 million creditors in rand value. we have a goo working relationship because i believe a goo working environment leads to productivity. i also learned to be the first one to make peace with co workers. what i enjoy most is recons. to be honest I've done creditors since i started working, there nothing challenging about my job, or maybe i could say difficult suppliers who do not provide required documents in time.

Pros: small mine - opportunities are scarce
Cons: we start working & six - due to company transport benefit one has to wake up at 3:3.am
