Juta and Company Reviews

Great company but unfortunately the company is going through a major restructure.

- A typical work day Follow up on in project currently in print (litho and digital) Meet with marketing co-ordinator to go through brief and make sure the brief is fully understood and all elements required are included. Open new jobs and add to workflow system Design, pack or product photography, email drafts, do amendments, get approval, quotes and do finishing art and get file print ready - Your relationship with co-workers Work as a team and step in where necessary to get the job done on time. - What you have learnt Being current and keeping abreast of the latest design technology / trends are crucial. - What you enjoy most The design time. Zoning out into that space and coming up with concepts. - The most challenging aspects of the job The lack of design time and pressure to churn out material at the drop of a hat. Doable but not ideal.

Pros: Flexibility in hours and upskilling
Cons: Working after hours/weekends becomes an expectation

Growth

During my 5 years at Juta and company South Africa's oldest publishing house, I not only got the opportunity to learn to allot about the law but had to learn how to deal with people and an organization that is very change-averse. During my time here my business analysis "toolkit" has expanded tremendously especially in managing and guiding change.

Pros: multiple promotions, part of strategy committees, managing outsource partners , budgets, negotiations
Cons: Poor work live balance due to to many projects and to little IT resources
