Industrial Development Corporation Reviews

A great learning experience

Working as an industry analyst in one of Africa's largest Development Finance Institution has given much needed exposure and experience in my field as an economist. A highly meritocratic environment, the IDC pushes employees to be high achievers, something that is both beneficial to the employee as well as the Corporation. I have gained an incredible work ethic and learnt to push boundaries in the work place. I enjoy the great corporate culture and the exposure to other key stakeholders working towards the achievement of common goals. Trues as this may be, albeit surmountable ,challenges in my work remain. One of the challenges is keeping afloat the often long and onerous processes of correcting the Corporation's strategic direction.

Pros: an awesome corporate culture that is supportive of one's career improvement through training and further studies
Cons: a lack of industry specialisation

Great work-life balance and learning curve

The company offers great training ground but limited opportunities for growth and promotion within the organisation. The company also offers great work-life balance which is highly appreciated.

Pros: Great work-life balance
Cons: Limited opportunities for growth and promotion

My work day at the IDC

I work for the IDC which is a Development Finance Institution. I am an Office Administrator, which in this case means, I handle all Secretarial / Administrative / Support functions in the office. I look after housekeeping, health and safety, maintain a pleasant working area. I manage the pool car and all SAP related issues. In this office we are only 7 people and form a close bond with each other. We assist each other where we can and will perform tasks for each other in order to lighten workloads. I have learned that both teamwork and working on your own plays a very important roll in a company and can add value. The most challenging aspect of my position is that I sometimes have to rely on my Head Office colleagues to assist with certain things and I have to rely on technology to do that.

Pros: Organisational skills are extremely important in this position and that is something that comes naturally with me as I am a very organised person.
Cons: I currently do not have any scope for a promotion as I do not have a tertiary qualification.

Learning a lot about office work environment

I've been working at the IDC site since 2012, the client taught me that studying can make me go far. I started to upgrades myself after that until my highest security grade whichbis grade A. I started to love iffice work as the Employees of IDC does theire daily duties on my watch. the client promoted me to be a site manager. I registered and started to study office administration diploma and complete it on the 10th of December 2016, i'm now going to study security management at the beginning of 2017. I like challenges and change, and I will grab any opportunities that come in my way, I enjoy working in a corporate environment. I love to grow. I enjoy to write my reports duting weekend when it's quite even though I don't work during weekends and holidays, I can just go to work to see how my colleagues are doing and write reports. I love my Job so much and I don't want to miss deadlines.

Pros: Opportunities to work under IDC as I'm working under extended cintract
Cons: Dealing with difficult clients, although I win most of the time by following the client policy
