IBM SA Reviews

The company offers exceptional learning for my field of work.

A typical work day. I am contractually bound to UK/EU times, therefore my day starts at 10:30 in SA winters and 11:30 in SA summers. According to the contract I am required to give 8 hours a day - which usually ends in a 14 hour day due to the amount of work that needs attention. My environment is also client facing - through video conference. I am fully setup out of office with a laptop and cell phone. Your relationship with co-workers I work very closely with co-workers, that would be guiding the technical teams in Europe, retrieving all data that resolved any issues and then reporting the resolutions into London and the client. What you have learnt One of the most valuable things I have learned is that the most precious thing a client can give you is time, and in turn I have to give something of value back. What you enjoy most Definitely the challenge. The most challenging aspects of the job Where is boils down to assisting various other managers with re-retrenchments.

Pros: Doors open easily when you have a proven a proven track record and you display hard work and achievements.
Cons: Hours spent working.

Growth and development

Working at IBM for the past 9 years has given me more perspective of the work force. Being in the global dynamic company exposed me to more opportunities more growth and development. Having established great relationships coached me more in a diverse direction. I enjoy working with people, they are my strengths and my motivation. Seeing their achievements and drive gives me great joy. What I have learnt in my career is it stay focused even during stormy seas. It is not always easy but at the end of the storm there's a golden sky. Most challenging aspect of my job, when I need to reduce the headcount. This create an uncertainty and a bleak future for everyone. To manage the negative perception is a challenge but through my years of experience, I have managed to overcome that hurdle. Change is inevitable and we will always have it with us. It is how we adapt to it.

Pros: Ambition is my strength and I will always push for greater heights.
Cons: Time management is key which I use to be flexible. I.e Working from home to meet deadlines etc.

It is a great experience to meet candidates who are talented and have capabilities to deliver and are a perfect match for the role and best fit to the company culture. I worked well with different hiring mangers across different business units as well as the talent partners in my team. I learned to thrive under pressure and that more can be achieved when a team united.
