Group Five Projects Reviews

Group Five Projects have good values and put people's safety first before production

I am currently working for Group Five Projects since 2012 continuosly and busy studying online for a international Safety Management Diploma from Nebosh, through Phoenix.UK which was paid in full until July 2017 an amount of R38,000. Group Five is a very good company and I would've never think about the fact to apply for a job at another company if I had another choice. Our Business unit had a back down and I am still working on a limited duration contract. My current project is coming to an end by the end of September and I have to be proactive to look for another job. I used to work in a manage position and always come along with my co-workers.

Pros: Groupfive will continuously seek new and develop new and improved ways to deliver solutions, products and services to be more efficient and effective
Cons: Group Five will not enforce long working shifts without a fatigue management plan

Eye-opening experience, with an opportunity to gain exposure to large projects

As a QS graduate I have had the opportunity to gain key exposure to various QS duties and functions on site, on a day to day basis which include contributing to monthly cost report; compiling of the monthly IPA; doing monthly subcontractor certificates; drafting of contractual letters; and pricing of a Change Notice. I enjoy dealing with people and working alongside colleagues from different disciplines in a collaborative effort to uphold the company’s objectives. I enjoy dealing with people and working alongside colleagues from different disciplines in a collaborative effort to uphold the company’s objectives. Working on site means that one works in a pressure intensive environment and faces a variety of challenges on daily basis. Levels of stress can creep up and cause frustration amongst the team, however, it is the nature of my work and through experience I will learn to cope with all types of difficult situations.

Pros: Great exposure for a young developing professional
Cons: Working away from home; working long hours

People company

My typical day at Group Five can vary form more routine days to very busy days depending the needs the company / department at the time. Circumstances can crop up at any time. I have a good working relationship with my fellow colleagues at different levels from staff in the yard right up to Management. Moving to our latest premises I have taken on to members of staff which has been a new experience for me. The most I enjoy is the people, we have a great commoradary amongst us and will help each other even if not our job to do so. When you have been with a company this long, 16 years, they become a second family. I did find the micro management aspect of the business can be a bit tiresome

Pros: Do look after the staff
Cons: Micromanaged

On a typical day one needs to be on their feet to keep up with work load, team work is very essential as inorder for the work to get done team work comes first and from all of this I have learnt to be patient, understanding , to be determined to getting the job done. What I enjoy most is the laughter between co-workers, my team mates are motivating, supportive always willing to help and can build a person both emotionally and intellectually The most challenging aspects of the job are weather conditions as we are always outdoors

Fast Learner, Can work without Supervision, Accurate, Proactive and a hard worker

Typical work day is fast paced, challenging, changing environment, quick thinking and being proactive. Good working relationship with my co-workers. I have learned that even though a situation might look too much to handle you tackle it from one side and take one step at a time and before you know the situation has been resolved. I enjoy the variety of my job and the challenges each of them bring to my table. The most challenging aspect of my job is working with 6 different Directors at the same time - working on 6 different jobs - each Director obviously feel his job is the most important - I have become King in prioritizing!

Pros: Always opportunity to learn new things.
Cons: Fast paced and long hours

Good Learning Opportunities

It is a good company with lots of procedures in place. My E& I department we get along very well and we are always together on projects away from home so basically we are family away from home. I have learnt alot of things since I joined the company both Technical and Commercial. Challenging thing about my job is to be away from home and missing the family and sometimes we push long hours making it difficult to have a normal life.

Pros: Not too much promotions
Cons: Long Hours
