I am a dedicated professional with over 15 years’ experience in IT. I spent 7 years of my career as a Systems Developer and the rest of my work experience was dedicated to my passion – “Project Management”. I have 5 years of solid experience managing agile projects where my typical day starts with a set morning of stand-ups followed by engagement sessions with key project stakeholders. I facilitate sprint planning sessions on all my projects which clearly defines the team’s priorities for the sprint ahead. Tracking project progress and communicating with the project team is one of my main focal points. I update key project stakeholders on a weekly basis so that there is visibility on the project status and I am always available to assist the team in solving any issues that may negatively impact project timelines.

Small niche bank with lots of growth potential

It's a small bank where one gets exposure (to audit) core departments i.e. Treasury/Credit and Retail. I like the people and the culture and the dynamics of having 2 office hubs with the main one being in Durban and interacting with all levels of management. A typical work day is unpredictable as no 2 days are the same. The most challenging aspect of this job for me is that a lot of the processes/procedures are being defined/refined and not established as one would find in the bigger banks.

Pros: Excellent exposure to core banking processes
Cons: Very limited opportunities for career growth

Not a great place for young people to start off.

There is no career growth for young people. There are no opportunities to grow within and around the company. Salary increases are not negotiable, standard 6% increase every year.

Pros: Great for people who have made it and no aspirations of growing
Cons: No form of motivation
