I am currently a Human Resources Superintendent at Gold Fields South Deep, since January 2015. After obtaining my degree from the NWU in 2007 (Cum Laude), I was selected as one of 5 new trainees. During the first 2 years of my career I formed part of an extensive 18-month Training Programme at Gold Fields Business and Leadership Academy (Now Sibanye Gold Academy). During this training period I was trained in all HR Disciplines and I was permanently appointed as Supervisor Human Resources from January 2010. I have gained experience in the Employee Training and Development, Employee Relations, Industrial Relations, Manning/Labour Management, Performance Management and the Recruitment, Selection and Engagement Disciplines. I have a B Com Human Resources Management Degree and a B Com Honours Degree in Business Management with specialization in Human Resources

Excellent learning curve

MY REVIEW Working at Gold Fields is tough but a great learning curve as well. It is a whole new world with so much pressure, conflict and hard work. A normal working day would be bombarded with meetings, recruitment, interviews, salary issues, safety incidents, safety meetings etc. This is one of those environments where you have to be not only book smart but streetwise as well. It is a hostile environment where it's killer be killed/trample or be trampled over. Everyday it’s a rush and everything is important. Frustration rushes blood pressure to the max but payday causes everyone to have a smile on their faces. Great opportunity to learn a lot about different people and different cultures, understanding their backgrounds, how they work, what their methods are and how they view life. It becomes so bad at times where there is hardly no work-life balance. Small departments enjoy their work to the max because they receive individual attention and are able to monitor their processes.

Experienced instrumentation mechanician

i really enjoy what i do most and my profession i will never trade it for anything, i have a good relationship with my co-workers starting from helpers up to my engineer, i have leaned to do task that are assigned to me to do them right first time given to me. i really enjoy when things are challenging

Pros: There are no opportunities in for promotion in my company
Cons: long working hours and racism

I still need to grow mentally,to meet new challenges,to meet new management,to grow academically,to explore new things,to change environment, currently I do things I was doing 5 years back,

Learned a lot since in the company.

Working for the mining industry it's quite exciting and challenging at times,my day start by making sure that per shift i have people for that shift and make sure that that they perform their duty.i have a team of dedicated and hard working,i trust them and they trust and believe in me,all the time or years at the company I've learned that dedication and hard work pays and can take u very far in ur career.The challenges that i get is running short of stock due to theft and breakages.
