Genrec Engineering Reviews

Maintaining Zero Tolerance Policy from Lifting and Rigging, Mobile plant and machinery operation

My role is to ensure that identified hazards are dealt with immediately and accordingly without any delays, by doing this it will prevent any risk that may or can cause injury or death to the employees or even property damage. The strategies is to manage threats uncertainties with negative consequences typically include transferring the threat to another party, avoiding the threat, reducing the negative effect or probability of the threat, or even accepting some or all of the potential or actual consequences of a particular threat but with these we have great action or preventative plans in place. I ensure that Supervisor are listing and communicate all hazards/risk associated with the task employees and they don’t treat the document as paper exercise and Employees don’t always understand the purpose of the assessment sheet and treat the document as paper exercise too not getting involved when is completed by Supervisor to show that they are aware of their surroundings.

Pros: I get involve to draft Baseline Risk Assessment for Genrec Engineering which I managed to draft up a Continuous Risk Assessment(revised yearly or incident occurred) that is Site Specific to mitigate (control measures) hazard/ risks associated with the task on hand/ performed. My role is to ensure that there is a formal process for hazard identification, risk assessment and control to effectively manage workplace and safety hazards within the construction work place and these processes are followed and adhered to at all times. I make regular site walks, and with the Client and our sub-contractor’s safety officers to identify any new or potential hazards that might be missed, when Baseline Risk Assessment. At the beginning of the year I facilitated Site induction to employees which incorporated site specification rules and regulation together with Life Saving Rules. High Risk Ratings are drafted to make employees aware/alert of high risk activities.
Cons: Due the volume and scope of work on the project my frustration is to get of the relevant parties around a table to conduct the risk assessment and to discuss all the hazards involve and what controls will and need to be put in place to control, minimise or eliminated the risk. Risk Management is not adhere to from employees and management to show commitment that will make us fail to mitigate or control hazards/ risk at hand (work environment). Taking a shortcut by doing a task without Pre Task Assessment and Work Coordination Permit issued and employee going to join other crew and not signing off Pre Task Assessment and Work Coordination Permit to show that he’s aware/ familiar of the hazards and risk involved at the area. When asking employees during the day about the topic of the day (Toolbox Talk) they seems lost or forgot, what was it. I also revise Risk Assessment when incident / accident occurred, planning how risk will be managed in our organisation pertaining our daily activities.

Studied at SAISC School of Draughting, working on Autocad & Tekla.

As I have worked as a waiter before my current job it makes it easier to work with people and the pressure is manageable, I currently work on site at the Medupi Power Station so i have the practical knowledge of steel structures and designs. I love working with people therefore my clients as well as my colleagues are based on a good relationship, I definitely have respect towards my superiors as they have the authority over me. On an average day apart from the heat in Limpopo that makes my environment a bit tougher I truly enjoy it and I would definitely like something similar. The most challenging part of detailing is the design of connections, as the buildings/unit are over 100m high above ground I need to consider all possible loads that could have an affect to them when detailing.

Pros: Hardworking, Trust worthy, Honest and Disciplined.
Cons: I tend to put pressure on myself so that i can keep to my goals or meet earlier deadlines.

Usual pay office

My current company experience cash-flow problems. This result in uncertain salary payments. A normal working day is the same as working in any busy payroll office. We have a BiWeekly payroll, 350 employees clocking on the ERS clock system. An Off Site payroll, 150 employees. These two payrolls are hourly paid and fall under the MIBFA Main Agreement. The salaried employees consist of managers, supervisors and office support staff. The three payrolls have different cutoff dates for different functions during the month. The office is busy with queries and employees phoning and walking in. Management is requesting unusual information regularly, apart from normal balancing and reporting. All the totals are pulled together and balanced up to general ledger level at month end.

Pros: Co-workers are great
Cons: Uncertain payment of salaries

It has been a great j learning and applying my thoughts everyday is the best

We work with every machine that is inside, it doesn't matter what your trade is, we are taught to due all the things including mechanical work even when you are an electrician which gives and opportunity to learn. I've have a best team so far and my supervisor gives me a role to play as a team leader whenever he's not there...The most challenging time it's when we have more breakdowns than the employees but we always try our best to accommodate it

Pros: Promotions are there and I've seen many people changing positions which gives one a hope that one day they can become something else
Cons: I always look at the bright side of my work
