Gauteng Health Reviews

Day to day pros and cons

As a nurse working in ICU a typical day includes a lot of patient care, from admitting new patients from different medical disciplines and diagnosis. I work closely with different stakeholders within the health department, including doctors, physiotherapist and even clerks. I maintain healthy working relationships with colleagues as I believe our colleagues end up being family because we spend most out time at the work place. I work with a lot of conditions/ diagnosing closely so learn new terms almost everyday and I enjoy that. Challenges I have includes less room for professional growth and development as you can wait for years and years for study leave to be approved. Salary also for the amount of work done is not satisfactory.

Pros: There is everyday learning as we come across different conditions daily
Cons: There’s no room for professional development. You can wait for years for study leave to be approved
