Gauteng Enterprise Propeller Reviews

Excellent Learning curve

I work with a group of Financial & Investment Analysts in the Investment Management Unit which is the hub of the Parastal where applications varying from different sectors are being assessed for SMMEs funding. I oversee the smooth running of the Unit and report weekly (applications being assessed, quiries from proponents, targets reached or not reached to service a particular number of SMMEs, budget allocations, etc)to the Office of Chief Operations Officer. The most challenging aspect of the job, is when particular proponents feel an entitlement to be automatically financed in their businesses because this is a 'State owned agency'. I enjoy enteracting with proponents who are eager to tap into specialized business sectors and have the appropriate business acumen to achieve their desired goals.

Pros: Great opportunity to grow skills wise
Cons: Dealing with angry clients who are not understanding

Internal auditing in the public sector

Auditing in the public sector may be one of the most challenging tasks in my early professional career. However, if the job doesnt challenge you, then applying your mind and rxpertise may prove to be fruitless. I have learnt a great deal of inportance regarding teamwork, more importantly, as an auditor you have to display professionalism at all times which is one quality I have learnt. Most chchallenging is the reluctancy to accept findings. The role of an internal auditor differs to that of an external auditor. Internal auditors are brought to assist the internal operations, therefore, the reluctance to exercise auditor recommendations is the most challenging aspect of my job, but it provides an opportunity to deal with conflict and ways to manage arising conflict.

Pros: Exposure and career growth
Cons: Manual based auditing
