Im desktop technician working for Gauteng department of infrastructure development, im responsible for second line support,printer managenment, network troubleshooting (patching network port when required), updating calls on GLPI servicedesk systems. i start working from 7:30 until 16:00. I am a team palyer and independant at the same time and work well with my co-worker.beside IT skills i have gained customer facing .customer satisfaction since i am working with users. i enjoy building relationship with the users and understand their level of computer literacy so i know how to help them over the phone . the challenging part for a desktop technician in goverment department is that you always have to make sure that technology(networks, online services,printers and applications,) used does not stand in the way of service delivery.

Excellent learning curve for entry level
It is very interesting to work at department of infrastructure as they offer different learning programmes to suit different individuals. my relationship with my co-workers is excellent they are friendly and supportive. I have learn a lot of things when it comes to recruitment, submission, screening of applicants and organising interviews. I enjoy having to sit with the panel and observe an interview being conducted and doing pre shortlisting . The most challenging aspect of the job is doing a background check on successful candidates and they didn't submit all the documents required documents as required per the advert or they have stated they don't have a criminal record only to be discovered after background verification
Pros: there is no growth, they can train you as a learner or acquire skills on their skills programme and not hire you after training.

My relationship with my co-worker is good because i am friendly person and i don't keep grudges . I have learn how to capture and ,what i enjoy is to help client when they come ,most challenges is when we have waited for client to submit everything and thay wont bring everthing in time

Additionally, working as a Labour relations officer has allowed me to work with different people on an ongoing basis and I have proven to be a person that cares about employees and their wellbeing.
